In Less than 1 Year I Became a Full-Time Online Business Owner

So it's been a little over 11 months since I signed up for Wealthy Affiliate and let me just say I've learned a lot more in that 11 months than the last 3 years I spent at university.

About 2 months ago, I came to a point where I had to decide whether I would use the money I had saved up for my last year of university or invest it in my online business.

Looking back now, it was the best decision I have ever made.

I am now making a full-time income from my online business which specializes in performance marketing and the only limit to my financial growth is dependent on me.

Not a degree, job title or employer.

The path has been bumpy, filled with a ton of extrinsic resistance from people around me, but it was worth it and I have by no means reached the end.

If I Could Go Back and Tell My Newbie Self

  • Spend some time learning the technical skills. You should at least have a basic understanding of HTML5, CSS3, javaScript and a creative skill like photoshop (especially if you're a 1 man/woman army).
  • It's not always about "grinding". Yeah working hard is good, but sometimes you need to take a step back and then focus on the things that produce the most results.
      • That means don't spend so much time on WA reading motivational blog posts.
      • When you notice that someone releases some valuable content, follow them so that you get an email when they release more.
  • It isn't ALL about who you know, but meeting and talking to the right people can cut your learning curve in half and change your life within minutes. That being said, try to be selective with the people you surround yourself with physically and virtually.

To your success,

Evan

That's amazing. I see a lot of new members get your welcome message, so I know this is definitely working for you. How many posts do you have on your site? And, do you leverage the SiteComments feature here much, or just wait for organic comments?

You're one of those people I really look up to here, since I know you are actually successful. Hope to join you at the top some day, sooner than later. ;)

Hey man,

I have about 140 posts, but stopped posting as much because I wanted to focus on paid advertising.

When I was writing posts I would make sure that I share my post to every social media account I had, crawl it with Google Webmaster tools and then do 1 SiteComment.

The results aren't instant and a lot of time my posts would end up on the second page or bottom of the first, but now when I look back many of them are at the top of the first page of Google.

Good to know, thanks so much for sharing your "secrets". :)

All the best.
