Whether you’re a millionaire or an average Joe, stress is bound to enter your life at some point. In fact, stress is your body’s natural response to various events that take place in your life. While stress is a natural daily occurrence, if its reached a point where you feel emotionally overwhelmed or drained it’s time to do something about it. Stress can easily become chronic causing mental and physical complications. The key to overcoming or controlling the stress in your life is first identifying your triggers. Once you know what stresses you out, you’re able to make a plan as to how to move past it to brighter days.

What Has Happened Recently to Cause Me Stress?

You might me thinking, what has happened that is NOT causing me stress....? I have a deadline, I gained a couple of pounds, I gotta be here, and pick up that, and get there on time and so on. Stress is usually brought on by a series of events in one’s life. In order to identify what your stress triggers are, it is necessary to ask yourself what’s happened to cause you stress. Write down the last few events that have taken place leading up to your feelings. Maybe you just broke up with a longtime partner, or you’ve recently been laid off from work. Whatever has occurred (large or small) in your life over the past few days should be written down to help assess your triggers.

Why Do These Events Make Me Feel Emotionally Drained?

Now that you’ve written down a list of what may have caused you to stress, you need to determine why they make you feel this way. For example, if you’ve just broken up with a longtime partner, maybe you feel stressed because you have an internal fear of being alone. If you’ve been laid off from work, maybe you’re projecting the future and making the assumption that you’ll be unemployed for a while.

What Can I Do About it?

Asking yourself these three questions can help you to identify your "stressors" and learn valuable methods to eliminate it from your life. Sometimes when you have a lot on your plate, it can be hard to see what’s causing you so much pain and anxiety. However, by writing it down and assessing what you can control you will feel a sense of relief almost instantly. The key to overcoming stress is to figure out what you can control and change and what you can’t. Now that you have a good understanding of what may have caused you to stress and why you’re emotionally drained from these events, you can begin to cultivate a plan on how to retrain the brain.

The Art Of Self-Forgiveness

Do not let your past experiences define you, understanding this concept is imperative to the DE-stressing process. Forgiveness is an art that this difficult to practice at times, but holding on to painful memories can suck your energy and cause endless stress. Holding on to those painful memories is the definition of letting the past define who you are today. Self-forgivingness is making a conscience decision to love yourself and honor your value. Self-forgiveness, along with self-love are truly the remedy for stress, for they will enable you to believe in your ability to overcome any challenges you face.

What an exellent article Erica, you have summed up what my sycologist and sychiatrist have been working on for years, i have a long term illness and some very painful memories of things in my past, now what is stressing me out is this here mastering the computer to earn a living and understanding how to put it all right in the right place, can you come up with a solution to that please. is this your niche, f not it should be, at least one of them, you have a gift for understanding.
