Solved - Google Analytics Not Linking To Search Console AKA Webmaster Tools
Setting up the technical aspects of your site can be just plain frustrating. You can read and watch tutorial after tutorial, but still get nothing but error messages. Argh!
If you’ve never had this problem – good for you.
But to save some of you from pulling your hair out trying to link your Google Analytics account to a web property in Search Console, I’m going to share what I learned last night.
Thanks to WA we have the option having secure sites (https vs http). Totally awesome!
Here’s the thing, when I tried to link my "https" URL via meta tags it wasn’t working even though my site was verified. I mean I could see the little picture of my site in my dashboard. But for some reason when I clicked edit (in order to select the little radio button and click save) it never worked. I mean tried to do this for like 30 min straight.
SMH!
So, I finally read through some Google forums. Other people said they had the same problem and couldn’t figure out a solution. That made me feel better.
I know that’s horrible.
Just when I was about to give up, I read this tiny two sentence post from a user stating how he has an "https" URL that wasn’t getting verified in Search Console. What he did was add the "http" version of his URL and that solved the problem.
This sounded promising. So, I gave it one last shot. I added the "http" version of my URL, verified via Google Analytics, and finally - success!
Hope this helps someone out there,
-Erica

Hey Erica,
That is EXACTLY how you become a pro ... keep looking until you find a resolve. Too many give up when they run into a problem that is not easy to find a resolve to.
And Thank YOU for sharing this tip with all of us!

Interesting. My site is https:// but yet in Google Analytics it shows http://
I'm guessing I need to switch it to https instead? That is probably when my analytics stopped working...
You should have both. Keep the https:// and then add the http:// as well.
