Listening to my Thoughts Shocked Me

Hello lovely community friends,

So, I'm sitting here with a site post half written.

The first half I'm happy with.

The second half I have planned and have a good feeling about.

I know how I'm going to approach each section, I'm moments away from being IN THE ZONE and I'm actually really looking forward to seeing how it turns out, it's going to be great!

BUT...

I'm not writing it.

Anything and everything is an excuse.

I procrastinated for a good while until just now, when I stopped... everything... and sat in silence, and just listened.

I listened to my thoughts


I listened to my thoughts and quietly asked,

"What am I telling myself that's keeping me stuck here on the edge of making things happen?"

What was my inner voice telling me that I hadn't yet heard?

When I listened hard, I heard, "You won't make it work".

Say WHAT?!

Yes, this is what I was telling myself and I was SO SHOCKED to hear these words, because my conscious thoughts have been telling me I'm over my self-doubt about building a business for weeks now.

As far as I was consciously aware, I was in a great head space

I was feeling awesome!

I thought I was anyway.

Little did I know that my subconscious hadn't quite caught up and was holding me back.

Moving forwards with my subconscious

So, I sat with my thoughts for a while and gently reminded my subconscious that

  • I am in charge now
  • I am successful now
  • I have work to do NOW
  • It needs to come along for the ride

Let's hope it listens, cheeky subsconsious.

Me, my subconsious and I hope this helps anyone in a similar situation!

Anyone else experienced this?

Wow, thanks Emma, great post!
I'm going to do some listening tomorrow when I'm writing again.
I'm big on listening to my feelings, and often there aren't any words attached... just feelings and visuals.
I'll report back on the insights I get... and the words attached as well. May as well use all the senses!

Ah nice, feelings and visuals too. Made me exhale with calm just reading your reply, thank you.

A great tip is to say thankyou to it and acknowledge it as it is trying to protect you. It is part of our historical fight or flight mechansim which in terms of WA it a bit out dated. :) Once you don't resist and say thankyou you can then move on.

What you resist persists!

The other tip is imagine you have a volume switch in your head which you can turn right down or speed the voice up like Mickey Mouse and it will have less impact. Good luck and remember its called being human! Good luck. Phil

Yes! I remember learning that about changing the voice (or memory I think) - scrambling, I've heard it called. I've just tried it and it cracked me up hahaha. Thank you for the insight Phil, I hear you and really appreciate you taking the time to help.
