You simply cannot compete within the online world if you are not offering a channel (affiliate program) for people to promote your products/services.
I am surprised there are still companies operating without an affiliate program these days. The potential reach that a company has with an affiliate program (in terms of their marketing capabilities) versus not having one is incredible.
