Maintaining Authenticity in the Age of AI
As AI technologies continue to advance exponentially, we as bloggers, face both exciting opportunities and challenges in maintaining authenticity in our writing. I am fairly new to blogging (I’ve been blogging for just over six months) and I am a strong believer in being authentic in all aspects of my life, including blogging. So I asked myself “How can I maintain authenticity in the age of AI?” when automated content creation seems like a godsend but on the other hand it could sound the death knell for authentic, original content.
My Approach
When I began writing my first posts I suffered a little from imposter syndrome but I settled into my new role as I gained more experience in my niche. However, when initially using ChatGPT for automated content creation, I realised that it wasn’t going to be a case of copying and pasting the content straight into my blog. In order to be authentic, I had to ensure that I included personal anecdotes, insights and experiences into my posts to connect with my audience on a personal level.
Doing research into my niche, taking notes, annotating articles, this was all part of my initial approach to writing a blog post and I have continued with this method, albeit integrating AI into the mix. I like to copy and paste my notes into ChatGPT then ask it to generate an outline for my blog post using these notes. With this approach, I find that I am more likely to retain the information I have researched.
The Benefits of AI
AI has revolutionised the way content is generated and used but it is essential that we understand where it delivers successfully and where it falls short in terms of authentic content.
I consider ChatGPT to be a very effective ideas generator and especially useful when, as bloggers, we don’t have a team to brainstorm ideas. ChatGPT is the perfect substitute here. The plethora of ideas it produces means that you never run out of topics to write about. So in terms of being a time saver, AI delivers every time in my opinion.
A Look to the Future
Despite the influence of AI, we as bloggers can continue to uphold authenticity by prioritising our personal voice and sharing our unique perspectives in our content creation. Sharing personal stories, insights, and experiences allows bloggers to make genuine connections with readers and differentiate ourselves from automated content. When engaging authentically with our readers through comments, feedback, and community-building efforts we can strengthen connections and encourage a loyal and supportive audience.

Just a quick tip though...
When generating images, ask it to do so without any text, for some reason it doesn't spell very well on images!
Or at least pop over to Canva and edit the text before publishing!!!

I am not using it, and if you watch the news, I am not sure that I will be using it any time soon. Of course, I do know how to write on my own!
I hit the publish button by mistake, and immediately deleted the post.

I love AI Elaine, but... we need to use it as an assistant and not rely on it to do all the work for us!
What used to take me many hours or even days to research can be done in seconds with the right prompts now!!
Always fact check as it can get things wrong, put your own spin and personality on things and you're ready to go!
Like it or not, it's here to stay and is the future....

I agree Jessie. It makes things much faster and it's definitely a very effective tool.
My main concern (or rather my pet peeve) is when I read articles that are soooo obviously AI generated with no editing. Someone has just dumped it online! They seem soulless with stock phrases etc!
That may be the ex teacher in me! 😉 Or maybe I just need to master it more effectively! 😄

When used as a tool or assistant it is wonderful but... I too hate it when I just see copy and pasted AI content without any thoughts to personalize it and a lot of the times people don't even read it beforehand I am sure!!
