Site Comments - Expected and unexpected benefits

I started here at WA on a free account sometime last year, then upgraded to premium a few months ago, then kind of stepped away, and have recently "restarted". LOL...so even though I'm new, I'm kind of not new. Anyway, I'm considering this a fresh page now.

The other day I saw a blog post about doing Site Comments in the Site Rubix area. Had never seen that before, and I obviously want to have people comment on my site and get the attention of Google at some point, so I've given it a try.

What an awesome idea to connect people like this! First, I'm seeing people with sites on some different topics than what I have. It's refreshing to not always think about the thing you are going to write about for a change.

Second, I'm happy to add something positive to someone else's site and maybe to their day (upon seeing a good comment). I'm trying my best to reflect on what they wrote in some way and possibly add something new if it comes to mind.

Third, I'm in a giving mode rather than a "what can this do for me" mode. Makes a difference in my mindset, which is better overall (in life and as I approach my own site).

Fourth, I'm coming up with a few ideas as I go for my own site! The two sites I have been taken to have topics that aren't a direct overlap but could connect in a sideways sort of way to my own topic. So as I was writing on each comment I recall thinking, "hmm, I wonder if I could make part of this topic work for my site, even if it's just part of a blog post or a bullet point or the way they added encouragement throughout this list."

So how about that? By giving I am actually receiving, and that is awesome. We all need more of that and it's easy to forget how generosity can create its own returns. :)

Glad to be finally more involved with the community. Can't wait to keep moving forward!
