My First 2 clients

whaddup whaddup? So, I felt like sharing some news with everyone. I am a little confused of how much of my service I am going to give for free and what not. I have decided to give reseller hosting a go at Resellerspanel because I don't want to host clients on my WA account for now. I might change my mind one day

I do not have any experience with them so please do not ask me at this time if they are any good. I prefer to recommend it if I have tried it myself. ( I am gonna put my affiliate link in there though just in case MUAHAHAHAHA. Might sound a bit evil but hey! At least you know what you are getting into!.)

Client number 1 the decorator

He is an interior designer who was promised a website from a friend of him and he never delivered the website. I met him on a Dutch holiday called kingsday. We didn't even talk about business at first I was just enjoying the city with a buddy of mine and he later called me up to ask if I can help him out so I immediately yes.

My cheapest option is ridiculously cheap for hosting. 5 euros a month if paid for the entire year. He wants cheaper I didn't want to be rude so I accepted his wish and I am helping him out Wednesday but....I am afraid I am going to reject clients the next time if they don't want me to take care of their hosting. Or was he losing interest after asking me:

Are you making money of this?

My reply was:

"Yes this is what I am going to live of, I earn a commission."

hmmm, I already promised to help him, but if the next client is not willing to choose my hosting services.....I think I might not want to help them out. Is it wrong to tell people you earn a commission?

Client number 2, owner of a lunch room

I am signing him up for a starters account at WA. He is very hardworking and doesn't have time for learning. Unfortunately, he has too many costs at the moment to invest. However, he is considering to used paid hosting one day if he doesn't have to invest in some things. E.g his new coffee machine.

Some helpful feedback is more than welcome guys and thank you for reading my blog :-)

Happy kingsday,

Dan

I'm so happy for you Dan. I know that these 2 clients will just be your spring board to many more clients. :)
Please let us know how Resellerspanel works out for you.

Very Good!! Keep it coming.

Kudos! :)

good for you what makes his time more valuable than yours ... that is how I see it in the past I was too soft, being honest and fair does not mean you have to de value yourself good luck

never under value what you have to offer there are people out there that are always looking for something for nothing, you have offered him a good deal and hosting is very low, wish you further success and with some better clients, you need to earn a living just like them

Yeah, I'm seeing him tomorrow. I have made my decision. If he wants it cheaper that's fine but not with my help. I guess it's not worth my time.

Lots of people earn commission instead of get a flat fee for service. Some people get both (they get paid $x no mater what plus y% commission on sales). There is nothing wrong with telling people that is how you get paid. You are performing a service for your clients so they should not be offended that you should make money, especially if your pricing is competitive with others that do the same service.

Hi Dan.

I think there are two sides to this.

You can be upfront about your costs, or you can say "this is my charge - take it or leave it".

Walk down your high street - how many cafe's/bars etc say "this is my charge, and the reason for that is because my supply chain costs me $xxxx and my staff cost me $yyyy" - I bet none. They display the prices that you have to pay if you want to use their "services".

My local cafe doesn't even give an itemised bill at the end of the night (which I personally think is wrong), but I still go there cause I like the food.

If you offer something people like and want, it's not up to anyone else if you make money from that. Yes, have an affiliate policy on your site - Amazon etc may insist on it - but how many people come to your site to read policies? Best guess, none.

In my experience, anyone that pays you for a "service" is in business - and 100% understands that they don't expect to give away their service for free, without a markup - so if you're a "business man" with them, then they won't walk all over you and question what your turnover is - if they do, walk away - they are not worth the hassle they will cause down the line.

Cheers, Mark

Absolutely true. I wasn't ready with my prices! So I guess that's how it happened. Better luck next time but I guess we need to figure out what the boundaries are.

Congrats! Sounds like you have made a decision and are making some headway.

Definitely! Thank you :)

Congrats on your first 2 clients. You will definitely be getting more and more as time goes by.

Listen, you are just starting, so it is OK if you are second guessing how much you are charging your clients, but one thing you have to keep in mind is, this is your business and you are in business to make money.

At the end, your time should be compensated. But like I said, it is just the beginning and as you start to get more clients then you will be the one that will be determining the right price. Just don't get to much that you can't handle (it can happen) as you don't want to loose quality service to quantity.

You should also put in place a "referral program" so that from your satisfied clients you can get others to inquire about your services.

Non the less my friend, I'm glad to see you on the right path with the initial start and from what I can see you will be very successful.

Cheers!

Eddie C.

Referral program? How's that going to work? They can just send them my e-mail can't they? Or website (Which is soon to be build.)

Provide them an incentive. Perhaps offer them a free service if they refer you with a client that purchase a service from you. This can be a start to your referral program.

Happy Kingsday? hahaha It was last week. :P

Whoa! Why spending much time for others for just Eur5? Unless if you just spent 5 minutes for them. Re the busy person, based on my mentor's advice, it's an excuse. If you want to be rich someday, you have to work hard to find a way to be rich. This is kind of sucking out someone's else blood.

Friends are friends. But we've got bills to pay. And what's wrong with earning commission? The millionaires started out by earning commission. You know Amway or any direct sales org? Their sales representatives are all earning commission. But congratulations in getting clients. And don't doubt about charging your 'friends' more. :)

Good night, Dan.

Jenn

Definitely at some point my time is going to be expensive but not now. I want to invest in giving quality value. However, My clients have to choose hosting services through me if they want my help. I have decided this today because it wouldn't be fair to me.
