Sometimes you have to do what feels right

Before I get into this, I want to just say that I love this platform and I love the teaching style. I especially love the community feel. I don't want anyone to feel as if I'm trying to go against that.

With that being said, I ran into a place where I felt that I couldn't continue with this program. It started when I got about halfway through phase 2 of the Affiliate Bootcamp and I couldn't get my wordpress site to look anything like I wanted. Anyone I talked to said to focus on content and not worry so much about design. I tried my hardest to follow that advice because I know it's right. In any internet marketing, content is king. That was drilled into my head years ago. But no matter how much I worked on getting better at content writing, design still bothered me. When wordpress began taking over as the main web design platform, I wanted to master it to the point where I could make a website I'd be proud of. Long story short, I never got there.

My greatest idols have always been Bruce Lee and Muhammad Ali. I know, random transition but there's a point. The two of them are known for having their own unorthodox styles that work specifically for them and lots of times no one else. Lee was fast enough that his Way of the Intercepting Fist gave him an advantage over any opponent. No one else has been able to use it nearly as effectively. Ali would lean backwards before countering. Anyone else who tried this style usually ended up on their back, knocked out. Their styles only worked for them and not the masses.

So now, I'm transferring all my info to a web builder I love and I'm enjoying my design as well as my content. Again, I have nothing against wordpress and I do hope to someday master it still, but right now I'm doing what feels right. I can't fight against my own style by picking up someone elses, and I don't believe anyone else should either.

Desmond,

I hear you but your focus is misguided. It was very hard for me to deal with wordpress because it wasn't a drag and drop website builder like I was accustomed to from back in the day.

But once I actually learned about internet marketing and SEO I realized that it was less important that my site had to look exactly the way I wanted. And it was more about focusing on the content. Google didn't care if my color was xyz or if my sidebar was position here vs there. All they care about was the content. And in most cases that's what the people that are visiting my site care about.

They do a search looking for an answer and if provided my site answers that question without distracting them with anything else, they'll be happy.

I've seen a lot of people go the route of the little website builders like wix that you can drag and drop to make it look exactly the way you want. But the reality is those website builders don't create sites that rank well.

They don't have the massive number of plugins that can enhance the functionality of your site in one click. Wordpress websites tend to rank better and have been around for a long time. It's not a platform that is just going to disappear. It's the reason why WA finally moved to wordpress rather than sticking with their own builder.

So in the long run you're probably doing yourself a disservice from a marketing standpoint and putting yourself at a disadvantage. You won't be able to leverage things like site comments, or site speed or site content. All the great features that are built into the wordpress platform used here at WA.

You're trading off the fixation of trying to make your site look exactly the way you want instead of focusing on the real priniciples that will drive you traffic and income.

So I would highly recommend you reconsider this. And read this: I'm all for thinking outside the box and there a ways to do this which I've done myself like I discussed here: But this isn't one of those situations that will benefit you in the long run.
