Acres of diamonds
Years ago I read the book Acres of Diamonds by Russell H. Conwell. I have faced many rough patches while learning new skills in the technology field. Every time I would want to stop or change direction; I would think back to the message in this book. The life lesson I gained from the pages of this short read is, "don't give up".
My father gave me my first copy when I entered the corporate world. More or less he gave me an entreprenurial spirit. Even though he never was successful in his own business. As each one of my children graduated highschool this is the book I gave each of them.
The lesson that I took away from the book is when we give up often it is at the expense of your success. In the book the main character believes a diamond mine is in his backyard. He dug for years and never found anything.
He gave up and sold the property. The new owner went into the backyard and found signs of diamonds. In the end the new owners uncovered one of the richest diamond mines ever unearthed. If the previous owner had just stuck with the search a little longer he would have reaped the rewards of his efforts.
An affiliate business when placed in comparison with starting a traditional business. Starting an affiliate marketing business is cheaper and a little more forgiving when we make mistakes. This business model doesn't cost thousands of dollars to start, thus putting pressure on the business owner to produce.
With this model we are able to post, tweak, re-post, and continue to test until we find what works. In traditional business this isn't the case. As a matter of fact in many industries if you make a mistake it could cost you your job.
The one great thing about the internet and affiliate marketing is we can reinvent ourselves until we figure out the formula for our success. I won't and you shouldn't give up and lose your acres of diamonds.

Thank you for your kind words. The book is on my top 10 book list and when I feel things getting tough its my go to book. I have had couple copies over the years, but I still have my first copy tattered and warn with notes in the margins.
It's inspiring sometimes to go back and read my comments. Especially my early years in the IT Industry when my wife and I were struggling and she was helping me study for certifications.
This book kept both of us motivated to keep pushing forward. I pulled it out the other night again as I started my journey here. That is what inspired me to write the post.

The book will inspire you. I'm new to WA and Affiliate Marketing, but I've been on the other side of this industry for many years. So I have seen the money made by people and finally decided to go for it myself.
I'm treating this like I have my technical career. All in and nothing is going to stop me. This attitude has helped me to advance in my career to being a manager of a large development team and system administrators.
Now its time to use my skills to make me money and not someone else; I'm working for.
