Is Your Content Calendar Actually Helping—Or Just Another To-Do List You Ignore?

Let’s be honest: Most content calendars start strong… then collect digital dust. So how do you build one you’ll actually stick to?

Here’s a 5-step guide to creating a content calendar that works for you—not against you.

1. Know Why Consistency Is King
You don’t need to post daily—you need to show up regularly. Algorithms love it, but more importantly, your audience learns when to expect you.

2. Choose the Right Tool for YOU
Whether it’s Trello for visual planners, Notion for all-in-one lovers, or Google Sheets for simplicity—pick what you’ll actually use, not what looks trendy.

3. Batch-Create by Theme
Batching content by theme (e.g. “Tip Tuesdays” or “Behind-the-Scenes Fridays”) saves time and keeps your voice consistent across platforms.

4. Weekly or Monthly Planning?
Test what works best for your rhythm. Weekly = more agile. Monthly = more strategic. There’s no wrong answer—just what keeps you going.

5. Bonus: Want My Free Content Calendar Template?
DM or comment “CALENDAR” and I’ll send it your way—no strings attached.

Let’s stop ghosting our content plans.

Cheers

Nice tips Peter! I used to use a content calendar but....

Never really stuck to it! I just do what I can on any given day, and am happy if I move forward! :-)

Hi, Peter. Thanks for these tips. I am not using one at the moment, so if you wouldn't mind, please send me your template. Thanks again.

Hi Peter. Thanks for these tips. They are on point I think and I like the idea of creating by batch. I've just started using Trello which I like because it's very visual and I can relate to that, but I still find myself hand writing notes on the back of old envelopes! Not sure I'll ever get over that one, but I like your ideas.
Thanks for sharing.
