Skepticism for You

Many WAers, particularly younger members, report that their family is skeptical about the WA program. I have found this to be true as well. But, because I am retired, family just think that WA is a cute, hobby for me. There are several reasons for family skepticism.

  • No matter how much technology people over the age of 40 have used, they still have the traditional job as a model in their minds. We have been taught that work is out of the home, on a regular shift, with co-workers and over-site from a boss.
  • There is still a fear of the internet. My sister shops on the internet all the time. When I suggested that she buy a present for my brother-in-law at my site, she said didn't trust sites she doesn't know... there are too many dishonest people on the internet. It did no good to remind her that this was the site of her brother, the retired clergyman who she has known for over 60 years. It actually wasn't me she didn't trust, it was the mysterious people who assist me in having a site on the internet that she didn't trust.
  • Family want to see a paycheck that validates every hour of work. People with higher education forget how long they paid to learn. Folks forget how long it took them to learn their job.

If your family is skeptical about your participation in WA as you build your internet business, see it as concern for you. I suggest that you talk about your internet business as you would any other job. Create business cards for your site. Tell family about new products you are marketing or a new affiliate relationship. This strange new business will become familiar to them as you keep on fishin'!

You can't throw up front money out Jim and they should understand!

You are so right.

Good points, Jim...thanks...

Good stuff D...

You're correct. Family members are sceptical. Friends are too. I learned a tidbit back when I was in a mlm. I realized after creating a top 100 friends and family list and started making those calls that 99% of those on that list were my negative nannies. I have always said "action speaks louder than words". When the checks start hitting the bank, they change their minds pretty quick
Peace and blessings
Wade.

I feel you! My family is pretty skeptical as well... But yet they do purchase everything online as well. I am going to take your advice- print business cards and talk about my site as I would working outside the home! Great Post, thanks for the advice!

Thanks for sharing, James.

So true! I am facing the same situation with my adult children!
It is hilarious listening to their concerns. When did our roles reverse? When did I become the child?
I agree with you.
Just keep on fishing!

My family sees it as a waste of my time, they say to go out and get a real job. I say keep on fishin'.
John

Sounds familiar. Thanks.

Interesting topic, I think there is a lot of ignorance out there about the power of the internet. I don't think you need to have your families approval to continue in WA. Some times it is better just to get on with it and your success will impress.
