Graduation
There is nothing like a college graduation in California in the spring. My wife and I are in Chico, California at our nephew's graduation. Its a beautiful, clear day. The ceremony is at 9:00 in the morning, because, by noon, it will be 94 degrees.
There are several thousands of graduates so departments have graduations on different days. There are vendors selling cold drinks, ice cream and Chico State souvenirs. There are people with make-shift photo booths taking pictures and selling prints. Kids, dogs, aunts, uncles, parents and grand-parents are in a huge mass moving here and there looking for their graduate. Its chaotic, but incredibly fun and exciting.
I graduated from a small college many years ago. The atmosphere was stately and the ceremony was hot, long and boring. Its just great to see the enthusiasm of the graduates as they hug people before heading off to walk in their graduation.
I remember that line in the old Rodney Dangerfield movie, "Back to School." He gave the student address at the graduation ceremony, after doing the triple-lindy dive to win the big diving competition. His closing remark was to implore the graduates to go home and with their parents because it's tough out there. My nephew and all the other graduates are eager to get started.
We gave him a gift. You guessed it... a new rod and reel to help him keep on fishin'!

My wife earned another degree on Friday. She can now manage a hospital in the US after 2 national exams. I was so proud as she gave the speech. Contrary to most beliefs I have never been Valedictorian or Summa Cum Laude.

Thanks for sharing, James. I have a real good friend of mine that has a son that graduated from the University of Maryland. Last week we had 95-degree weather. Here in Maryland, 95-degree weather is the very uncomfortable weather.
