Hi, everybody!

So, who is Barb?

Ugh. I can write about anything on any topic but, when it comes to writing about myself, I find yours truly sitting and staring at the pulsating cursor on the screen. With every pulse, the imaginary pounding gets louder in my head.

Well, I guess writing a profile is the only place you can talk about yourself without sounding like a pompous twit. Hopefully.

Well, I have many interests: reading, writing, crocheting, traveling, dancing, acting, hiking, cycling, baking, cooking and playing the ukulele. I can go on and on. I really don't want to limit myself. I like to try everything at least once as long as it's not immoral or illegal.

I love to learn. I attended college right out of high school and obtained a diploma in Organizational Communication which is just a fancy way of saying Corporate Journalism. Then, later in life, I attended university and obtained my Hons. B.A. in Creative Writing and English Literature. Along the way, I also obtained a diploma in Television Acting, Makeup Art for Film/Television and Teaching English as a Second Language to name a few.

I've had many careers throughout the years - office administrator, photographer, editor, dancer, actor, and writer etc. So, how did I end up in the internet marketing game? Due to circumstances beyond my control, I found myself in desperate times with literally no retirement savings and a limited income. Therefore, I started to investigate ways to make a steady income, but not just some 9 to 5 job. I wanted to be financially free to do what I'm really passionate about. For that reason, I began my search where 99% of the earth's population does - the internet.

During my search, I came across a lot of online opportunities and embarrassingly admit that I fell for some of the scams out there. These scammers lure you in with empty promises and fairytale dreams. "You'll be a millionaire in no time, Barb. With our system, every time you raise and lower your arm like a slot machine, you'll be farting out thousand dollar bills!" I didn't think I was that naive but, when you're in a desperate situation, you somehow convince yourself that what these scammers are offering really will change your life. However, I had hope. Not everybody out there is a swindler. People are making money on the internet - a lot of money. I just needed to find the right system and, finally, I did - Wealthy Affiliate.

As I'm sure all of you already know, out of all the systems out there, Wealthy Affiliate is the only one that allows you to sign up for FREE and get FREE training and support. Also, they are up front and don't promise you'll make millions of dollars a day starting the very day you sign up while sitting in front of the tv watching soap operas and eating bonbons. Let's be honest here. Starting an online business takes work. The more work you put into your business, the greater profits you'll see. And, yes, it is possible to become a millionaire. There are a lot of them interacting with you within the Wealthy Affiliate Community who started out right here.

I must say, with all honesty, I am so glad I found Wealthy Affiliate. After spending just a few days going through the training, I could see the tremendous opportunity I had right in front of me and signed up for Premium in the first week. I haven't regretted it one bit.

So, that's me. Warts and all.

Have an awesome day!

P.S. I look forward to meeting you all!

Hello Barbara,♫Welcome! Nice to meet you ツ I wish you a lot of learning pleasure and fun on WA. Thank you for following me.

From the start, I have written training for every issue I had problems with myself. I also made a list of 1001 niche ideas, a checklist with 25 points to go through before you publish a post, 101 blogging ideas when you get stuck and an A-Z WA dictionary. I just love lists:) It has been very helpful to a lot of people. I have listed them in one blog you can find on my profile. It's the first website link on the right (click on my picture to get there). I hope to help you with those.

If you have any questions, please add a comment to this message or leave them on my profile.
Success building your business in 2016-2017. See you around, Greetings Loes

"No negativity allowed!"

I agree with that completely. Your thought create your reality. Be positive and you'll bring positivity to yourself. You CAN do this. Keep plugging away at it and be sure to ask for help whenever you need it. If you get stuck, frustration will be very counter-productive. Just back up a bit, take a deep breath and reach out. The community here is awesome and you will find help.

I am in a similar "it has to work" situation, so I know what that is like. It has to work. So it will. The only reason we fail is because we stop trying. Don't take no for an answer, even from yourself.

I hope to see many posts in your future about all your success!

Barbara, I see you are making some good progress through the Affiliate Bootcamp. Just wanted to pop by and see if you need a hand with anything?

I also wanted to mention the success rates of Bootcamp. Absolutely everyone that has taken action on all of the phases of Bootcamp has a business that is generating consistent income online. MANY of these folks are going to be at our super affiliate conference next year.

I want this to be you and I want you to succeed with your promotions. So, please promise me that if you ever need a hand or feel stuck as you move forward, that you will get in touch with me!

Trust me, I know things can be a little overwhelming sometimes and I don't want you feeling like that.

Anyways, just checking in. Get back at me if you need anything Barbara.

Thanks so much Kyle. I just sent you a Personal Message as I am stuck. I have my 10 topics for each of my three theme pages, but I'm having trouble with how I put the posts under each theme tab that goes across the top and there is more that I spelled out in the PM.

One more thing though. We're now supposed to write all 30 articles now, right, before we head to the next lesson?

Also, I'd really like for you to comment on my page. I know you have probably thousands of people asking you to do i.

Your initial 3 themes are just the framework for your initial structure. These will be broader topics as to what your website is going to be covering, think the high level of what your menu and navigation will look like.

There is no right or wrong when choosing these, they should just be relevant to your niche. They will change over time as your website evolves and as you build out content on your website.

As for the 10 ideas within each, those are just to get you practicing doing your keyword research. You won't necessarily be creating content for each and every one of these, but it is to get you in the habit of doing keyword research and breaking down topics to find many more keywords.

Thanks so much! Can you check out my site to see if I did this right? richartiststarvingartist.com

Also, I went on to Lesson 7 and you talk about having WP Spam Shield already installed. I don't have that and I searched the plugins, but it's not there. I have SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam. I did find a plugin called Shield WordPress Security. Should I install that too?

I love your site.

I wish I was that far along, ha ha. Mine is pretty plain so far, but we'll get around to that soon. I like your writing style. As an (unpublished) author myself, much of what you have written strikes a chord. Great job so far!

Be aware that you do have one topic listed twice in your menu and neither one is a working link. Just in case you missed it. :)

Yeah, off to an excellent start here. Nice work! Just a few small suggestions.

(1) You should be adding feature images to all of your posts. You can do this within the post editor for each post that you create, down the right hand side below the tags you will see the option to upload a feature image (see attached image for reference)

This will add an image beside your content snippet on your blog roll which makes your blog roll much more visual.

(2) Focus on getting more comments and engagement going within your posts.

We have a SiteComments platform here at WA where you can get comments on your pages/posts. Within the SiteRubix menu under SiteComments you will be able to gain access to this platform. Here is the direct link:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/comments/requests

This is great for getting engagement on your website (which leads to rankings) and this is what I suggest you do with every new post you build on your website.

Well, if I'd known that we could have you personally check our sites...

So, you would suggest getting feedback right off the bat? I'm feeling a need to make my site more presentable first... I have done almost nothing yet image-wise. I have to admit, that's my big concern-- adding images. I keep worrying (needlessly I know) about using an image that I don't have the right to use and getting in trouble.

Hey Craig,

I get all my images from royalty free sites where the images are authorized for commercial use.

They are: www.pixabay.com and www.pexels.com

Thanks. I know there are a number of sites out there, but I am slightly paranoid. Last week (?) there was discussion in the live chat about someone losing their site because of an issue with an unauthorised picture. Made me want to be extra cautious.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hey Jason!

I've narrowed my niche down to Luxury Travel where people can go to find luxury: cruises, car rentals, vacation land packages, yacht rentals, jet charter, travel clothing etc.

I've also picked my website name.

I'm trying to pick a theme. I found one on Word Press's website but I don't know how to find it in site rubix. Is there a way to search in site rubix for say travel themes or the specific theme I found in Word Press?

Also, when I join premium, isn't it billed in my country's currency? Reason I'm asking is because it asks me for my country and province. I'm in Canada. It then adds my province's taxes to it. Then I noticed that it charges me in US dollars. Why is it adding my Canadian taxes and then charging me in US dollars? Shouldn't I then be billed in Canadian dollars?

Firstly, congrats on finding your niche and picking a website name, Barbara - great job.

As a non-premium member, you will have access to limited themes (Last time I checked, it was 12).

You will easily be able to select a travel theme when you join premium.

Also, Wealthy Affiliate is founded by Kyle and Carson who are both Canadians, so I guess that's the reason why you are charged Canadian tax.

It applies to all Wealthy Affiliate Canadian members (we have a lot here) :-) and remember that the US dollar is the International Internet currency.

You may want to contact Kyle if you have questions about billing and taxes. He is busy, however, he will answer you personally.

Once again, great job thus far.

What do you think of my niche? It's not too broad is it?

I can understand billing in US dollars. I just don't get why we are charged tax on US dollars.

I can't private message him but I asked a question on his profile.

Is there no customer support with regard to billing etc?

My opinion is that the Luxury Travel Niche can still be narrowed down to a specific group of people looking for a specific type of luxury travel.

You definitely do not want to be too broad when just starting out.

Niching down will allow you to be more successful, especially as a newbie.

I found this helpful infographic which you may find insightful: You are also able to get help with billing question on the Wealthy Affiliate contact page linked below:
http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/contact/

I am sure you will get all your questions answered.

Okay, I think I've narrowed it down now. I'm hoping people will be interested.

Antarctic/Antarctica cruises

I have several domain names in mind if you think the niche is narrow enough now. I don't know if I should actually have "antarctic cruises" in the domain name or not. Would I get more hits if I did?

Here they are. Tell me which ones you like. These are all .coms

cruiseantarctica

southpolecruises

glacialcruises

antarcticcruisevacation

southpoleholiday

polarcruiseholiday

antarcticsailholiday

southpoletrip

Hey, Barbara.

So, I checked on Google to see what your competition is looking like...

You will learn that one of the first things that you want to do when you are getting into a niche is to make sure that you thoroughly research your competition.

You will also need to research your keywords to make sure that they are not ultra competitive keywords which will be difficult to rank for.

Jay covers these details in his live and recorded video training and I would really want you to watch it before you even purchase your new domain name.

I want to make sure that I am leading you in the right direction, so be sure to research before you jump into your niche.

My top picks from your list are:
1.southpoleholiday.com
2.glacialcruises.com
3.antarcticcruisevacation.com

They are all keyword rich domain names and they are also memorable & available.

Pick one and focus fully on writing great content with low-hanging fruit keywords which Kyle fully covers in course 2. I hope this helps.

I'm sooo confused now. I'm on Lesson 4 of the Get Started Here course. Is all this research explained in these lessons? I don't really know what to do now because all Lesson 4 tells me to do is pick a domain and theme.

I changed my niche to African Safaris because you only travel to Antarctic from Nov to Jan. I found about 10 affiliate programs for African Safaris.

Sorry about all the confusion, Barbara, lol. I know, that same thing happened to me when I was a newbie. (It all seemed so confusing)

For now, just focus on the first course. All the questions which you are asking now will be answered as you continue.

Aspects of the research are explained in the "get started here" course which you are currently on, however, the further courses explain to you in more detail how to move forward with content, research and rank.

I would also suggest that you reach out to Kyle or Carson for suggestions.

They have been in this business for a much longer time than myself and are, therefore, more experienced.

They may be a bit harder to reach, however, they will provide some real helpful advice when they get the chance to respond.

I hope all the confusion clears up pretty soon.

Jason.

Thanks!

I've tried to reach out to Kyle about the billing issue that I mentioned yesterday. I just wanted to know before I go Premium, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Is there customer support here because the community doesn't really know about billing issues and Kyle and Carson are hard to get a hold of.

By the way, what do you think of African Safaris?

You are welcome!

I did send you the link to the WA contact page yesterday:
http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/contact/

You will be able to get some information regarding your billing questions there.

Also, just a suggestion here. Kyle usually responds to you at a much faster rate when you actually reply to his message on your profile.

Reply to the message that he sent to you and ask about your billing question within the message.

Oh, by the way, African Safaris is definitely an interest of most people. I think it is a good niche to venture into.

Remember to do your research first, of course!

Hey Jason!

Thanks for introducing me to WA. I actually found your blog/review on Digital Altitude. I went through their first 6 steps and it just didn't feel right. I'm sure you can make a lot of money if you have a lot of money, but being forced to buy products in order to get a commission on those products doesn't sit well with me. I can see a lot of people buying these products and not even using them. It just somehow feels like I would be taking advantage of desperate people.

I like the idea that WA lets you create your own niche and you're not forced to buy products to get a commission.

I'm just hoping that I can make a lot of money say at least $5,000 a month with WA. I know it takes work and I'm willing to do that work. Do you know of anyone making at least that much?

I agree totally, Barbara.

Many of us here do make upwards of $5000 per month.

If you would like to see some success stories from various members, go to the top of your screen where you see your search box and type "success stories". You will see a lot of examples.

Here is just one that I have linked below: Everyone has different experiences here.
