Hitting a Wall, then going "Hulk" on the Wall

The Journey so far...

So I am two months in my journey to build my blog into a brand. Has it been easy... no, has it been profitable...not yet. Have I learned a lot and made a lot of mistakes... absolutely. That is why I love WA. I can be given the steps, work toward a future that is one that I can control.

Things are going well. I have one site that I have focused on almost exclusively and another site that is just waiting for me to give it attention.

My one site that is linked under my profile is the one that I am focused on right now.

As of current count I have 20 pages of content in two months. I know by now if I had worked harder I could be at 24+ but I am happy with that number and working and giving it a good boost in the next month and a bit.

The Wall

Everything was going well... then my site hit the wall at 80 MPH. I am a data guy, every night without fail I check my google analytics page. At first I was getting smalls amounts of visitors. Usually in the range of 10-40 a day.

Then I started see and upward trend in the line and my growth kept going. It smashed through the 40 visitors and stopped at 62 visitors.

What happened next drained the wind out of my sails. For the next week my visits dropped, and the more they dropped the less I felt like doing anything with the site.

So, I went poking around WA one day and found a great comment by someone (sorry I forget who said it or where I found it) but the author said that one should not expect to make any money until they have around 200-300 post.

The Mission

So, I made that my mission to post a blog post once a day for the next 44 days. I chose 44 days because it is 6 weeks.

Why six weeks? Because studies say that a habit forms in three weeks but more recent studies shows it took the average person around 66 days to form a habit.

I think I am a little bit better than average ;D so I chose a number between the two.

Anyway, tangent done.

"Hulk-ing" the Wall

I got back to writing and the funny thing is I found a gem of a keyword really low competition (around 70 on the keyword tool here on WA) and searches per month was in the high 700s.

Ironically, this was the article that I was starting to write before I hit the wall.

I tend to write an article, keyword search, write the title, edit, and then publish. From now on I am doing keyword searches first.

Anyway, finished the article and I publish it on May 10th. That day traffic spikes only to fall away.

Then on May 21 something happens I hit a new high for visitor 83! I am excited. Then May 22 data comes in and I get 236 visitors, and then May 23 data comes in and I get 605 visitors.

Now the fall may or may not come but I now have seen the proof that all it takes is one good keyword to get amazing traffic!

The Take Away

For those that are new here know that every little thing you do adds up. That there will be good times and bad but if you stick with it then you will not only develop a strong character but a strong business.

For those that have been doing this for sometime I want to thank you for all that you do and share here on WA without you "experienced" guys and gals WA would not be what it is.
