How to Stay Motivated?

It seems impossible. What do you do when you feel like a turtle or a snail? I know you will just say slow and steady the tortoise will win the race. That's why I added a snail.

Everything I try to do I have trouble with. It never runs smooth and easy. I know everybody here always goes out of their way to help.

Even though I feel like giving up I know that I'm not going to. I don't quit easily. It's just that I don't have much time during the week to work on this and then on the weekend a simple task might take me 2 or 3 hours because I don't know anything about Wordpress.

Trying to write content during the week in spare time and manage the website on the weekend but run into issues. I am not totally illiterate but way far from being tech savvy too.

Just feeling down, overwhelmed, defeated. Any little thing to pick me back up and get me back on my feet. I have felt this way before and overcame it. I know I can again. Gotta keep trying and my eyes fixed on the prize and working my way towards it.
This is way harder than I thought or expected it to be. I am not using my age as an excuse but i just don't have enough computer experience like even a lot of younger people. They probably catch on quicker maybe.

I'll get there. I'll keep trying and doing what I can when I can. Just had to get this off of my chest right now and take a break and just move on to writing instead of worrying about the looks of the website or how soon I will be able to get traffic to it.

Being motivated just has to come from within and knowing that this is the best place to be with resources and help available that we could never find anywhere else! I still appreciate everything about Wealthy Affiliate.

Blessings! I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend.

Keep at it, the experience comes. I'm one of those that wishes I could do a mind meld with those that know all of this stuff already, but that's not possible.

For those that may not know what a mind meld is, it's from the Star
Trek series. It's a Vulcan technique that allows a Vulcan to merge his or her mind with the essence of another's mind purely by using specialized contact via fingertip-points -- on a humanoid, usually around the targeted partner's skull temples. That would be nice, in most cases. :)

Onward and upward!

You'll do fine. We all just go at our own pace. As long as we keep moving forward.

Thanks Mickey. Little bit at a time. Even with a slow pace I am making some progress. Quitting is not an option.

I can definitely identify with how you are feeling! Don't give up! Look for help, ask questions, look for supplemental material or review what you might not understand. I am also an old timer, this is the most challenging task I have ever been involved with but very satisfying when you are successful!
Blessings to you, hang in there!
Michael Inman

Thank you for your advice and encouragement Michael. It means a lot to have so much help and support when we run into stumbling blocks along our way.
I am hanging in there and blessings to you as well.
Doug

I hope you are doing better!

I know what it is like. At 78 years of age and a one finger typist not up with modern technology I at least still have 22 years of learning ahead of me. It will keep my brain active.
Tom.
Ha, ha. Laughter is the best medicine as it replaces stress.

There you go Tom! You got the right idea and I am with you all the way. Best wishes on all of your endeavors!
Doug

It seems to be a simple fact; the young catch onto ideas faster. Yet those who are older have staying power, and that is what you need most. That ability to stick with it till it's finished. I understand too, at first I just did not seem to be getting anywhere nor did I think I had enough time.
I have learned to make time and to use that time wisely, that's all it takes. I am not there yet, but the longer you work with something the better you get and the easier things become.
Hoping for you to get through this.
Ray

Thanks Ray. All you say is very true. I will make it through. It felt good just to speak out how I was feeling but now I just move on at whatever pace I can. Little at a time.

I appreciate your encouraging comment.

There is so much to learn here. One bite at a time is the only way we can do it.
Have a great week ahead!
C & P

It can be pretty overwhelming. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other no matter how long it takes. Thanks hope your week ahead is great too!
Doug

Yes, sometimes you need to dig deep for that motivation, Alan

Very true Alan. I am digging for all I am worth but never giving up. The struggle continues!

Doug

I can relate to that. Motivation depends on many things, and when you´re not in a good mood or when you´re tired, it´s hard to keep motivated. It has helped me setting some goals, even small ones. Finish even a small task regularly, and you keep moving forward, even if it´s as slowly as a turtle or a snail. _@/

I´m also really bad with computers, but luckily the training here explains everything in detail. Think about what you´re good at, there must be something you´re good at that helps you with this. Even if you´re not good with computers, there must be something. Also, reward yourself after finishing your goals, even the small ones. That helps to keep motivated.

Very good advice Kirsti. I appreciate it.

It may sound like I am giving up but I'm not. I just knew that writing this would get the burden off of my chest and then I could move forward easier.

I will take what you said to heart and rewarding myself is something I need to do more. I am very modest but there are things I am good at that I don't think about very often.

Best wishes!

Sometimes reading a post on WA is a mirror image of what’s going on in your own life , i can truly relate to this post .
When in a mood like this i normally take a few days off & just take a step back and just let the ideas flow . New ideas for your website are a good source of motivation .

Thanks. It's good advice. I know there are other people walking in the same shoes.

It's hard to write a post like this but I know people understand and give the support it takes to lift us back up and keep us going forward.

It's going to take as long as it takes. If you can learn to accept that, you'll be on your way with less resistance.

This is a slow process even if a person were able to work 24/7 on this like I do. So much to learn. So much to do.

One step at a time, friend. One step at a time.

To Your Success!

Mel

Thanks Mel. All you said is so very true.

Time is on my side and that in itself is a very good resource.

I am not in any big hurry so I just keep pressing onward. One step at a time I go!

Doug

Great to hear Doug!

Mel
