How Important Is Link Building?
Hi Folks
I've been on WA for a few months now. I've followed what I have learned on WA with some pretty good results and it's great to be part of the community. I've had a burning question and i have waited to stumble over it during the training, but I have not seen it yet, which is the question of link building.
Many SEO experts, some that operate outside of WA talk about the importance of link building. There are many strategies and also varying dependence on it. Some of the strategies with link building seem a bit worrying and to be honest I would not give a second look at some of the blackhat stuff out there. But..... I want a definitive answer on how important link building is and what we know about it. If it's a good thing, what strategy should we be adopting? What exactly constitutes a link? Apart from the obvious link to your website from another website, what about website comments? Do these count for anything?
Would love to hear from anyone that has a plan in place!
Best Wishes
Doug

Surely use links in reply to comments, I always do this. Those can be both affiliate and internal links.
Internal links within posts and pages are essential, this is covered in lessons so I would not agree that this is not covered. The same is with external links.
I assume you are interested in inbound links, not outbound. I guess this will come naturally as your site authority grows, I have hundreds and did not do anything in particular to build them.
Yes inbound links or 'backlinks'. You mentioned it's covered in the training, any idea where i can find it?

Thank you Doug for asking all the questions.I am still learning.
No Problem. Got some good answers over here... How important is backlink building?
I've decided that after looking at all of the info on WA and all of the advice outside of WA, that backlinks seem to be important.
Yes, link building is organic and does build over time although it's not guaranteed.
Backlinks do make a difference and if you have high quality backlinks, there is all the evidence that it helps your ranking, this includes social media backlinks, which is why we are told to set up social media accounts. The problem is this and is probably why WA do not train it out properly - Getting poor quality backlinks or even worse, paying for poor quality backlinks have also shown to harm your ranking in the same way that it will if you fill your site up with multiple outbound links to affiliate sites.
I could be wrong here. I may have out of date info, after all it is changing all the time. I'm just going on what I have found as direct evidence myself.
What was that about being overwhelmed - haha:)! As you are new, just focus on the content, it's one thing that you absolutely must have and you must add it regularly, so don't get tied up with the subject too much
All the best
