Put The Big Rocks In First
We all have the same 24 hours to start our day. When we fill out our schedule for the day, it's best to put in the important stuff first. The big rocks. Put them in your jar first. Full calendar. Full jar. Full jar?
Try putting little pebbles between the rocks. If you take a break from your important stuff, e.g. your full-time job, try a little multi-tasking (most women are better than me on this, lol). You can sneak in reading a couple of educational blogs from our WA resident experts, etc. Full calendar. Full jar. Full jar? Hmmm...
Pour sand inside your jar. Shake the jar a little to let the sand trickle all the way to the bottom. Be creative here. Some activities can't be multi-tasked into certain tasks, i.e. drive now, text later - for instance. Sometimes common sense is not too common. Lol. Full calendar. Full jar? What do you think?
I would pour beer inside my jar. Water would do. But you get the point.
Your day is your jar. The rocks represent the important stuff - God, family, friends and your passion(s). If all you did the entire day had to do with these, you'd have had a full day.
The pebbles are the less important. Hobbies, car, etc. The sand, the small stuff. Everything else. But if we put the sand in first, it's obvious we won't be able to put in the rocks, much less, the pebbles.
Same thing with our day. We need to attend to do important things first. If not, we'll find the day gone with only the small stuff done.
What about the beer you ask?
It doesn't matter how full your day goes, it's always five o'clock somewhere. There's always time for a beer with loved ones.
Cheers!

My WAS Susan,
I inherited your cleverness, just a little of bit. You have 33 years of being an educator... I'll be happy to make it to 33 days of being a Premium member here at WA!
Cheers!

I love this post. It is so very true, especially the Jimmy Buffet Parrot Head reference it surely is 5 O'Clock somewhere.
You, Don, are a Rock Star.
Cheers!

I'll see you at the top, my friend!
I sure agree with you Don! Especially when it comes to the after work beer. Cheers my friend. And have a great weekend!
Yes sir, Eric. I had to throw that in there especially after Jay showed the beer in last night's webinar. LOL.
I hope you're having an awesome weekend! By the way, congratulations on your climb to Rank 40!

Nice one... apart from the beer, everything else I have to put in my jar:) My jar is always full but I love it. Makes my day even more exciting.
Thanks for sharing Don.
It's always an honor to have someone of your stature stop by, Ms. Aisha. Yeah, which is why I had to say "Water will do" because most people will relate to it better. LOL. Can I go to you for motivation sometime? I need it every now and then. Seriously.
Cheers!

Thanks for the visit, Davida. I'm sharing to answer a lot of questions from folks who're wanting to know how to do what we do, i.e. manage to get to the top WA Rankings with 2 jobs, etc. I just thought I'd share. Especially the beer part. LOL!
Cheers!
