Three rules for success at Wealthy Affiliate

INTRODUCTION

There are many things to love about Wealthy Affiliate.

1. It's no nonsense (no hype) approach to building a business that works
2. A tech support group that is so awesome, sometimes they answer my question before I have a chance to open my email program
3. A knowledgeable and supportive community

And I could go on.

In fact, I'll put in this plug.

Take the plunge to annual premium. I promise, you won't regret it. There is something that happens INTERNALLY when you go ANNUAL premium. I can only describe it as that final motivation that says, "This is it. I'm not going back. I'm finally going to make this Internet thing work."

And work it does. I've been an annual subscriber for two years, and I credit a lot of my success (see here) to what I've learned here at Wealthy Affiliate.

But enough about me, here's the advice I give to every new premium member.

THREE RULES FOR SUCCESS AT WA

RULE #1 - YOU MUST FOCUS

The biggest challenge for newbies coming into the Internet marketing space has to do with choices. There are too many and so newbies tend to bounce between dozens of products and programs.

There's even a special name for this distraction.

Shiny Object Syndrome

It's a real thing. As soon as you engage with the Internet, you become a target for a million messages and products. And they are attractive. If they come from the make money online niche, you don't stand a chance.

The promises are too good to be true, but you buy the hack anyway.

So at the very least focus means that you put away all of the previous behavior, and like a laser, FOCUS on what's in front of you, namely this platform.

Learn it inside and out.

Learn the ninja stuff.

Then go find a group of passionate people in a niche that get's you excited and serve this group by teaching them what you know about Wealthy Affiliate.

That's the game right there. But you have to stop buying up the digital trinkets, and you have to stop listening to all of the bad advice. Just turn it off.

And focus.

RULE #2 - FOLLOW THE TRAINING

This could almost be the corollary to Rule #1 but you'd be surprised how many people DON'T FOLLOW THE TRAINING and then complain that digital marketing doesn't work.

Listen, there are a 100,000 ways to profit from the Internet. Lots of business models work. It's just that YOU have to work one. It doesn't matter which one.

Pick one and then master it.

Here at Wealthy Affiliate it means you complete all 5 Levels of training starting with Online Entrepreneur Certification. You'd also be surprised how many people don't even complete the first level.

Follow the training also means that you go through the training as it's laid out. You don't skip around and you don't skip lessons.

The business model here at Wealthy Affiliate is to help you create a content rich affiliate marketing website in a niche of your preference. This is the bread and butter.

There are training and resources in other Internet topics, but building a website is the foundation.

Finally, follow the training also means doing the training. Nothing happens without action. You cannot just listen to the information. You must transform the information through action.

In one of my membership programs, we have a saying, "Just do the friggin work." This means you have to stop looking for others to give you their secrets. No more looking for shortcuts, DFY, or swipe files.

It comes down to doing what it takes to succeed.

At the very least that that means that follow the training.

RULE #3 - DON'T GIVE UP

The final rule is in some ways the most important one.

You can't give up. You must persevere. The rewards only go to those who are willing to put in the work and stick around long enough to reap the benefits.

It's a difficult journey even when you focus most of the time or you have a road map.

The learning curve can be steep. You are going to fail. Your will receive criticism. You will doubt yourself and your message and fear or anxiety will keep you from moving forward.

In addition, you will want to give up.

But this is when you must dig down deeper to answer the "why" question. If you don't know your "why" then it will be more difficult to continue because you won't have anything that's worth fighting for...

But when you find your "why," which is kind of like your mission in this world, then you have real strength. And you are going to need real strength to get you through the rough patches in your digital journey.

CONCLUSION

So that's my advice. A little long winded I know, but there's a lot to unpack. The simple summary is this. To succeed at Wealthy Affiliate you must:

1. Focus
2. Follow the training
3. Never give up
