Close friends and family they mean well or do they..

Heres a lesson I've learnt of late that I would like to share with you...

The other day I was on the phone to my friend and he asked me about my plans for the rest of the year and I decided to share with him my journey so far in the world of internet marketing regarding the progress I had made, what I've learnt and what I want to achieve, you know  all that good stuff... After my enthuisiastic outburst he asked me if I had made any money yet... i replied "nope not yet" .... Then he said pretty frankly "David, its a waste of your time, you've been doing this for like a month or so and no money, bruv I doubt all that kinda stuff will work"..

You see this week has been one of those weeks for me where all that people say and do seems to be negative and working against me slightly..

This monday my mom was questioning me about my future plans and I told her I wanted to start my own business some how and she was not too happy  and advised me to stay in uni (not that I was ever planning to drop out) and also forget about going into business with this economy, to play the safe route..

Now I know and have known for a while now that I wanted to start an online business and a successful one at that, more importantly to be self employed and have a freedom in my life that most people don't  have,  as well making sure my family are ok financially on all aspects.

What I've learnt is others and particularly the people closest to you  won't always understand and back you whole heartedly  when you've taken the decision to start an online business from scratch.

Maybe to them the internet is a strange land and holds no place or good fortune for someone like myself... Or in their eyes I'm just a dreamer and surely it would be a matter of time, before reality would knock me to my knees and makes me see sense and they were telling me in advance to stop me from ever receiving that blow..

Whatever their reason I've decided I'm going to make this work.. Yes at times its not easy but I'm ready for this challenge and hopefully one day look back and say "I'm glad I did that"

Great post dna88 ... I understand where you are at along with all the others :) but I'm really glad you're looking at where you're at with the perspective you have. In the past I've really resisted evrybody and sometimes wasted too much energy in that resistence instead of accepting them and their love ... but taking my own path anyway :) I've eventually learned - if a little late :) Lots of Luck and Many Blessings for Your Journey being true to yourself :) I salute you my friend and look forward to your success Px

Other people do not have to believe in you for you to be successful...you just need to believe in yourself and you will succeed.

I hear the same comments from time to time from my friends. So now i keep my business to myself.

PotPieGirl has a awesome Quote..."Do what others wont for a year and spend a lifetime doing what others can't."

How true this is!

Stick with it buddy and you will be a success.

Family and friends mean well but many people give into their own fears and insecurities which then gets projected onto you. They care and voice their opinion. Don't let it get to you. Keep striving and stay focused. You will reach your goal. Good luck. When you succeed they'll respect you even more as their view is that it is impossible for you to succeed

You're the captain of your own ship. I believe that when you feel a strong tug to do something, a drive, it's a calling from a higher plane. No one should interfere. I believe people mean well. They are just fearful.

Dreams and aspirations are what make us go forward. I understand what you are experiencing with your Mom and friends I;m going through it as well with my family. Just keep doing what you need to do to reach your dream. They have their own and work towards them in their own ways. Keep working for it! and have a great day! Kathy

I agree - you need to continue to believe in yourself - after all if you don't, certainly no one else will. I've achieved lots of things in my life that when I started people thought I was mad, but I kept at it and now those same people are quite proud of me. I hope your (and my) IM journey is a big success.

Great post and very true - I to fall into the category of failed past ventures and I am looked on by friends and family as a dreamer, gullible etc.
I wish you every success and would love to be there when your family and friends realise you have actually achieved a fantastic life style on your own terms. Keep plodding on.

My family is mostly supportive, but that's because I actually sell articles and make a little money that way. They think the marketing is all a little "pie in the sky" - but I'm with you, one day I'll look back and be glad I kept at it.

I don't even tell family/friends that I do. I did have a few business ventures not worked out, and I know what they will say. There is a reason my name is ana nimoss (get it?). But, when I make tons of money, I am going to have this big smile that says, I told you so!

The best revenge is living well. When I first started I got lots of negative vibes from family and friends. Now that I do this full time, they all brag about me. Luckily I don't get my self worth from others.
