SEO is not hard. At least not has hard as a lot of people make it seem. There are a few fundamentals you must consider and implement within your content to see the results you want. If you follow these basic fundamentals you WILL see an increase in your rankings and traffic.

Additionally, implementing proper SEO also has a direct impact at conversions because your audience will consider you more authoritative as they have found you in the search engines.

A few of the basic fundamentals I will go over in this post is:

  1. Keyword density
  2. LSI Keywords
  3. Outbound Links
  4. Image optimization

Before I get into the technical tips, I want to point out that you should always write your content for your audience first. Provide useful content that will help your reader. And always make your content easy to share on social media. The benefit of writing good content is that it will get shared and that alone will have an extremely positive impact on your SEO. With that in mind, here are some of the technical things you want to do -

1. Keyword Density

There is a right way and a wrong way of doing this. The wrong way will kill your SEO and search engine rankings.Keyword density is the number of times your keyword appears in relation the total amount of words in your content. With that being said, the length of your content is important. Your content should be more than 500 words but 600 to 700 is advisable.

The longer the better. There is a lot of research that shows that longer content out ranks shorter content.

The wrong way is to over-stuff your keywords and repeat the same keyword phrase over and over.

The wright way, with consideration to the length of your content is to sprinkle your keywords in your content every 75 to 100 words. Do not use the same keywords every time, use your main keyword in your title in the H1 tag and in the first paragraph of your content. Then use keywords highly related to your main keyword within the content and use your main keyword. Here is an example with main keywords being “Rapid Weight Loss Tips”

Title: <h1>Rapid Weight Loss Tips That Really Work</h1>

Content:

First line, first paragraph:

Losing weight can be difficult but with these rapid weight loss tips you can safely take off the pounds a lot faster than you ever thought possible……

Related Keywords to use every 75 to 100:

lose pounds quick

quick weight loss

take weight off fast

and so on….

The goal here is to use keywords that are related to your keyword. Google and other search engines can detect if you are keyword stuffing and they will penalize your content. Furthermore, it makes your content seem more natural to your actual reader and that should be our biggest goal. Write for your audience with a slight consideration for the search engines. But always choose your audience over writing for the search engines, it will pay off for you in the long run.

2. LSI Keywords

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) references a lot of what I already talked about. Google uses LSI to determine the relationship of all your keywords with other words in your content. It does this with a mathematical formula to determine the relevancy of your content with the actual search. This is why it’s important to make your content focused on your keyword and use a lot of related keywords to your subject and main keyword.

This why trying to make content on too broad of a subject hurts your rankings. Do not try to rank a single post for many keywords. Focus your post on one subject only and you’ll be rewarded with good rankings.

3. Outbound Links

Linking to another authoritative and relevant site gives your content some legitimacy and only helps with your SEO efforts. Just be sure that the site you link to has high authority. Do not just link to the main URL, link to a page that offers more information that is highly relative. Here is more information on good external link practices - https://moz.com/learn/seo/external-link - See how I did that?

4. Image Optimization

The use of images in your content is important. The key things to focus on are you “alt” tags (most important), description, and file name. Make those three things relevant to your content and keywords and it will help your overall SEO. WordPress makes this simple when you upload your image – just fill in the fields like the example image.

While these content SEO tips are not fully inclusive, they will go a long way in ranking your content well. Just remember the “golden rule” – Always right for your audience first with SEO in mind. Keep true to that statement and you will consistently see good results on all your published content.
