Less is Better?

Hello happy people.
So, I have been playing around with my sites over the last few weeks and also trying to get into the HTML language at the same time.
Here is what I discovered:
When I am writing an article for my website content and I start playing about with the headings, and font size and font type, etc, bad things happen. Take a look.

However, if I keep it simple and just turn the title of the paragraph into a heading (eg, H3) and not make anymore changes then this happen:

This might not impress some people at WA who understands this sort of thing but for me I can now see how it could be better to have less changes as it is probably easier for search engines and of course Word Press Editor to work with your site.
Am I starting to understand HTML code or am I misguiding myself?
