It's a minefield out there!
For the past 30 years, finding a home based business that works for me has been like walking through a minefield. Since I started way back when with Amway, I have worked my way through many money-making opportunities, both offline and more recently online, each time wildly hoping that the blurb full of promises that lured me in will actually be true and that money will be made without a massive cost. Suffice to say - I've still got my day job.
With each of my failures, it was as though an explosion ripped through my confidence, tearing it to shreds. Why I persisted I'm beginning to wonder, and yet I couldn't shake the conviction that 'out there' somewhere was the right business for me. A transparent business with nothing to hide, no catches, an easy money-generating system and a supporting upline.
Dare I dream that I have found this with Wealthy Affiliate??
It seems that every now and then life can throw you a bone, and so it was for me the day I accidentally found Wealthy Affiiate while searching the net for something totally random. I have only been a member for a few weeks but as yet I have not found that I have to now buy this program or that training to proceed up the ladder. I am just so relieved that apart from a domain name which cost me $12.50 and my monthly membership fee, there is nothing else I HAVE to outlay.
I have spent days reading other members' blogs, sitting in on chats and discussions, all the while waiting for that mine to explode - after all, with my record, it's only a matter of time. But it's the most amazing thing. All that I hear is positive feedback, happy comments, helpful hints, wonderful support and a cameraderie that welcomes one into its embrace.
Mind you, I'm still holding my breath waiting for the crunch. 30 years of strike-outs is massive baggage to offload. It involves a complete change of mindset as well as rebuilding my shattered confidence. And....most importantly.....I have yet to prove to myself that it works. I have yet to make some money!!!!
I liken myself more with the tortoise rather than the hare, and I am methodically working my way through all the steps in the training. I have my domain name and my website and am currently filling in the pages of content. I am not skipping ahead or rushing to get my site up. After 30 years, what's a few more days?
I have read the profiles of many other members and realise my situation is nowhere near unique. Compared to some, my life has been a comfortable ride. For that I am grateful. However, I like to strive for something. To keep the little grey cells active. I have an ambition now to succeed at this online home based business and in doing so, I will have vindicated that naive, hopeful 20 year old.

Di, you and I are very close to the same, except you have 10 years on me. I had given up on everything but am fortunate to be receiving a good residual income. I have only been with WA for a month, but like you I am taking things slowly, going through everything as carefully as I can. This is not a sprint, it's a journey. We are both going to be successful because we've put in a lot of time already and know how to work. I look forward to seeing your success. By the way, your blog is SO well written........love that you're adding in pics etc.

It does take a little while for most people to actually realise that WA is the real deal. Mind boggling wouldn't you say. But its true. I felt exactly the same as you having been scammed many times. I'm glad that you are settling in and taking it easy one step at a time. WA is very deceptive because there is so much to do but it needs only to be done one step at a time.
