Hi Dianne,

I recently created this training in WA. It might help you with your spam problem. Best wishes,
Paul.

What sort of contact form is it and, in particular, has it got your email address in clear, unencrypted format?

Yes, I thought that was a requirement. I use a recommended contact form plug in, that was apart of a GDPR training here a few months back.

The problem is that bots can scan your contact form, recognize and extract your email address.

The less sophisticated ones can be fooled simply by replacing "@" with " at " and "." with " dot ". A live person reading that has no problem.

You can get plugins that obfuscate the email address so that it's still human readable but in the underlying code it's no longer recognizable to software.

Google something like WordPress email address encoder.

SPAM bots are a major pain in the... Block them with reCaptcha. It confirms the comment is human and blocks 99.9% of SPAMbots.

Thank you! That is a plug-in I assume?

You can add Captcha to your contact form. That will slow them down a bit.
