Top Gun, Wine and meat - a unique pairing?
What makes us SPECIAL? That is a question MANY ask themselves during a lifetime... I know I do. And the funny thing is : the answers CHANGES throughout a lifetime! Well the specifications do, the ESSENCE however stays the same : our UNIQUE pairings!
I have joined Wealthy Affiliate for over a month now, so quite recently. Through the training, we are told (encouraged?) to chose a NICHE. I chose wine in France. Why? Because, well... first I LOVE wine (and when I mean love, I mean I love learning everything there is to know ABOUT wine) AND I have COMPETENCE in the area through my WSET diploma I passed last year. Why FRANCE? ... I'll let you guys figure that one out!
However, I am also passionate about AIRPLANES, and especially military jet fighters, although I may not have the same competence about it... I got to ALL the meetings (I can go to) and watch any movie that may require a airplane (Top Gun being the most obvious, Pearl Harbour, The Right Stuff...). Today is Sunday, an off day in modern society. And at lunch, I decided to TREAT myself : good meat, good wine and Top Gun! This is what makes ME special : the love of these three areas, however different they may be to each and every one of you.
Top Gun - fighter jet, friendship and love
Like I saif, everyone is DIFFERENT. Although, most of today's population (or at least the readers) will have heard of this great movie, let's not leave anyone feel left out. Top Gun 1, was released in 1986 and produced by Tony Scott. Its stars the infamous Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer. It takes place during the 80's, and more precisely, the Cold War. The story is about a pilot, Pete Maverick, with a reputation of a mad dog, going to the most selective fighter pilot school in the US : Top Gun. A MIX between amazing scenes of air combat, love story and friendship.
What can one eat in front of such a movie?
Well I guess some people may even ask : SHOULD one eat in front of such a movie? I guess not, if you want to take it fully in. But I have watched it a couple times now and the idea was to eat in front of one of my favourite movies. So what should I EAT in front of this testosterone movie? Meat seemed like the obvious answer. However, I live in Provence and currently, the temperature is high. I chose a beef carpaccio to underline the finesse of such jetfighters. A little olive oil on top and I was SET!

Wine lover - which wine?
As you may have understood, I am a WINE lover so naturally, this superb lunch had to be accompagnied by wine. I needed a manly wine but with some elegance in order to PAIR with the dish. My heart was set on a red wine. But let's not forget : the temperature was high, so I had to find a wine that could be drunk a little fresh. Pinot Noir seemed like the obvious choice, and more precisely a Pinot Noir from BURGUNDY (Hautes-CΓ΄tes de Beaune to maximise the fruit!)

So here goes my Sunday lunch : Top Gun, beef carpaccio and Pinot Noir from Burgundy! Would that pairing tempt you? What would be your pairing with Top Gun?

Sounds like it was a great lunch event, Diane. It sounds quite delicious. I love wine, but am more of a white wine drinker than a red - particularly a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc!
New Zealand has a great white wine growing area called Marlborough and the Sauvignon Blancs are really spectacular. One of my favorites is branded Whitehaven.
Hi, Diane
WOW, A wine expert! ππ
My wife and I enjoy wine, but we know an average amount about it, maybe more.
We are also big movie people and enjoy one at home on most nights, two or three on Saturday and Sunday. For us, food and drink are obligatory with movies.
We enjoy eating everything, from home-cooked meals (with home made pizza being a favorite) to takeout, like Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, & Indian.
Your food and wine pairing for Top Gun sounds fabulous! Have you seen the new Top Gun?
It looks like you need to add a little more sound to your video, especially if you enjoy jet-fighter and other action-adventure movies.
Frank
Yes I saw the latest Top Gun and absolutely loved it! This made me want to watch the first one all over again!!
great tip for the sound, I'll definitely do a video next time (quite new at this...)
What sort of movies du you like?
Hi, Diane
What I meant by adding sound to your video was that I noticed from your photo that it appears you are using the speakers inside your TV? Perhaps that is a speaker on your TV console and another one on the shelf?
You could add a sound bar or maybe even a surround sound system, which would help put you in the move.
I watch mostly Sci-fi and action adventure movies because I like lots of graphics and sound, but we see most anything you can imagine.
Frank

Wow! I have never seen a pairing of food and wine to go with a movie. What you chosen sounds amazing. I an in California with some of the most amazing wines in the world. I hate to admit it. For Top Gun, I would have a burger, fries and a pepsi.
Wow it's sooo nice to meet people from all over the world π€©π€©
I would love to do a tasting in Napa Valley π₯°
Well I guess, fries and burger and pepsi would work yes haha
