Double Monitors, Double Success?
I awoke to an amazing surprise!
The morning began as usual. Take the dogs outside, then get my coffee carafe and cup and head for my desk. I like to start writing early when the house is quiet.
I focus so much better in the early hours. My mornings have always been early. I grew up on a farm and we had chores before school. It wasn't strange at the time. Many of my friends had similar lives. When I tell some of those stories now, many seem to think I grew up on another planet.
No, we just understood how to get our work done early in the day. I still stayed up for the 11pm news. (How many of you remember that nightly announcement: "It's eleven o'clock, do you know where your children are?") No problem in our home.
But back to my surprise. I am still smiling over it!
I've been using a desktop computer and a laptop. Love them both and use them together on my desk or just the laptop when I want to join the dogs on the couch. They usually make room for me but then a couple of the Cavaliers pile on my lap, just in case I feel cold.
This morning, like any other, the house is quiet. The dogs settle in for their early morning nap.
Coffee in hand, super-sized water mug beside me, I sit at my desk.
Surprise!
I'm looking at TWO full-sized monitors!
Two of my techy sons realized that with all I'm doing, a second computer monitor would be a huge help. So, as a late Christmas gift (almost all of our gifts were late this year..it just happens sometimes) they purchased a second monitor and a stand to raise it.
I actually felt tears well in my eyes!
Wow! I am so incredibly blessed to have such thoughtful kids (ok, they are young adults, but most parents understand the term kids never ends!)
And what does this give that a single screen doesn't? My mouse and keyboard work with both screens. I can zip between functions much more quickly than I could using the laptop as a second screen. Of course, now I'm already thinking of ways that the laptop will be used as a third unit.
Often when writing I use reference material and have been flipping from tabs to access. Now, it's all in front of me!
Will I get twice the work done? Realistically, probably not double. But I do already see the benefits after just the first few hours of using the double screens. It is definitely a time saver. And frustration cruncher!
This very thoughtful gift has made a great beginning to this new year! Even though only the dogs are with me at the moment,
I can't stop smiling!
2021 is going to be a good year!

I have a laptop with a screen attached to it. I love it when I am going through a training video. I have my project on the laptop and the training on the other screen. I can back the video as many times as I need too & then operate on my project. When it is a particularly long operation you can do it in bit size pieces. I find it extremely helpful. Wish you the best.
Pretty cool stuff, Diane! I used to flip back and forth between two computers--one behind and one in front of me!

Hi Diane
You are very blessed with such thoughtful sons, and a new monitor.
I've been using multiple monitors for quite a while now, and will never go back to a single monitor.
I'm sure that you will find that you will get a substantial increase in productivity.
Kind regards, Wazza
Yes, I agree. Using the laptop and desktop was good...having a double monitor is even better!
