Domain Specific Email Accounts

Which of the following email addresses would you choose for your website? axel@wherearethecarbs.com or wherearethecarbsat@gmail.com

It's better to have a domain specific email address as it looks more professional but is also more authoritative.

You can create an email address on your website by clicking on

"SiteRubix Manager" -> "site email" -> "Create"

Note that your domain has to be hosted by WA and that you can create as many accounts as you wish for that website.

It is also essential that you implement this email address at least in your privacy policy.

Personally, I also finish each page and article by giving my email so if you do something similar remember to modify those also. If not, then I recommend it.

To forward emails received to your personal address simply:

Click "New email forward" and insert email, domain and the address to forward to and finally hit "create".

Note that you can not create an email address and forward the emails to your personal address at the same time, it's one or the other.

If you want to configure this new email with your existing server (gmail, yahoo, outlook etc...) then you will the necessary information in the "SMTP settings".

The reason we create an email address is to get feedback and opinions posted on our website which will ultimately contribute to our websites increasing in quality and our pockets getting heavier.

This does not just depend from external comments, remember we can help each other by commenting on websites and ourselves by analyzing how colleagues' work.

All the best, Axel.

Thanks for the info!

Hi Axel, I totally agree with the professionalism of a domain specific email address. It's a HUGE red flag to me when someone responds or requests information (or in anyway represents themselves) with a free email address like Gmail.com or any other.

That being said, there are spambots and spiders galore just searching the Net to harvest email addresses. So, I point visitors to my contact page and have them drop messages to me from there.

So, I'm curious how much spam you're seeing ?

(I have a very different email configuration that works around this with alias', forwarders and a special Microsoft Exchange environment.)

I have not seen any spam yet as I created the email address today. Hopefully I won't get too much going forward.
That sounds complicated in writing, is it in reality?
Best, Axel

Setting up an anchor text link under your signature that goes to your contact page is not hard. This is the way many large-scale websites do it because more than one person may need to see the information the website visitor is sending or requesting. Then, the company simply responds from their personal company email address. The Exchange configuration I have is rather unique though. :-)
