'Black is Beautiful'.is it so on the Net, too?

Black is Beautiful....have heard this phrase many a times and personally, too, I like black as a color...including Black Friday :). Extending that to my presence in WA, I built my first website on a black background with white text and I think it looks fabulous. The text stands out, pictures stand out, the adverts. stand out and it is different from the run-of-the-mill white-background-black-text websites.

However, a few of my WA family members have expressed their reservation while giving me a feedback and that has really created a doubt in my mind that perhaps, I have chosen the wrong combination which will pull me back from achieving the goal for which the website was created.

So, before I take any action on changing my website theme to the regular white-background-black-text, I wanted to check if there are any documented proofs and opinions of the esteemed learned members of this wonderful family that 'Black ISN'T Beautiful on the Net'

Looking forward to your thoughts & opinions.

Finally! Thank you for all your feedback. I have finally given up my personal like and changed the theme to get to the tried and tested white background - black text.
Would appreciate your feedback/thoughts

Best!

I feel a bit guilty for this change, but I really liked the new look.
Very easy to read and navigate.
Congratulations on the new look.

Hahaha....please! do not field guilty. If at all, I say thank you and you can take major credit for it. Actually, I felt honoured that I was responsible for you writing a blog which may have helped many like me :)
It did take me some time to find an appropriate theme but thankfully found one.
Cheers!

I was just imagining you cursing me up and down while working with this :)
Again, congrats on the new look.

Rest assured, you were not alone.... LOL!!!
Just kidding!
I do not curse anyone, certainly not for these issues. I know when someone means good and when someone is mean to me!
Best!

Reading white type on a black background is hard on the eyes. People won't eventually know why, but they become uncomfortable reading pages designed that way. It's not at a conscious level, but subconsciously it can indeed hurt you.

Thank you for your opinion. I am on the lookout for a suitable theme and I guess it will take a bit of an effort to change. Moreover, I am getting a mixed feedback from my readers....that is adding to my difficulties. Not sure if you have seen my site...maybe you can visit it and then give me a feedback

The type size and san-serif font help to make it more easily readable. The choice is yours and my comments were just to give you another opinion. I think it is quite nice looking as it is, so either way will work out for you.

Absolutely. I sincerely appreciate your opinion and thank you for the same. I guess I will push this decision yo 2018... :)

Thanks again!!

I love the look of your website, I do advice white backgrounds for business websites. This is a niche website about hair. I think it fits the subject beautifully.

thank you for the encouragement.

The preference is black on white Deepika. When astrologers make images of galaxies in space they use negative for easier identification!

Hi, I took a look at your site and I actually like it. Don't know what the psychology of using this is, but I guess it is always down to personal preferences.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

Black (or dark) text on white background is easier to read.

One of the most important things I have learned while doing this is that my own ideas of what website design I like have to be put aside in favor of how a website should be built to make people buy what you sell.

A high converting website looks a lot different from a "beautiful" website, but a combination is possible to achieve.

The use of colors to build trust and encourage action is a science by itself and one worth studying.

Continuing from my response to your blog 'what I like is irrelevant', I must say that I am trying to 'dig deeper' before I open the window and throw my site's look and feel out because I still feel (and that was the thought behind even initially) that my site's look & feel is in sync with my niche, but then I am no authority on the subject, at least not yet.
Thank you for your post, though!!
Cheers!

I hope I didn't discourage you with my blog - that was not my intention. It was more a summary of lessons learned on my side. And believe me, those lessons are plenty and some still hurt a lot :)

Find out what is relevant colors for your niche. Health and wellness have a broader specter of colors to play with then the money making nice.
Then put it all together in a way that builds authority and trust. The best way to do that is to steal inspiration from other sites that you know are successful.

Not at all...I am still some time away from starting to get discouraged :)
I shall take your advice and search for some sites to 'steal inspiration' from (I thought one either steals an idea or gets inspired from an idea - although, either way the end result is the same hehehe!!) .

Cheers!

Great :) Just keep on writing and the rest will fall into place along the way
