Fear conditioning

Are we conditioned to fear failure?

I've had a dream for years to be financially free. And I've found (and paid for) some great resources along the way. (None as awesome as WA :-) ) I would attempt to follow through, felt like I was taking action, but came up short.

First problem I had was I was not clear on what "Financially Free" meant to me. It sounded cool - and it meant not commuting or working in a cubical. So I was in. Over time, I was able to get clarity. I didn't mind the work part - I just wanted to be passionate about it. I wanted it to make sense. And I wanted a life I loved - time with family and travel. I didn't want to fit my life into 2 days and dread the next 5.

After years of struggle and frustration it was clear the common "problem" in every attempt was me. So I started out last year with a goal to work on me. I attended some great seminars, invested in new resources and have read some great books. I started out 2016 frustrated because I felt scattered - I still was not focusing. After some reflection, I appreciate the people I've met along the way, the books I've read, motivational videos I've watched - I realized I've learned a lot. Mostly, about me and why the journey has been difficult.

Like most everyone, I didn't like to fail. I especially didn't want others to know if I did. Why? Why do we feel we shouldn't ever fail? When children learn to walk they fall all over the place - never do they consider just giving up. So when do we learn this? I don't really have the answer to this - but in school, in work and often at home we are penalized when we fail.

So here is to not giving up and sharing my failures (and successes!) with you in the coming months!

Blessings,

Diane

You are a motivational speaker in the making! Keep up the good work!

Thank you - nice comment!

Great thoughts for everyone moving in a new direction in life.

You're on the right track Diane. Work on yourself first and set the example. It feels a lot better when you view failure as finding ways that things won't work.

All the best to you,
John

Thanks John - I'm very excited right now! Things feel like they're falling into place. I appreciate the feedback.
