A Week of Learning

It has been a fascinating week at WA. Much discussion over ranking, some insiring posts and many new learnings. The problem really is focus. How many times do I go down yet another hole researching something that has stirred my interest in a WA blog or training. I have now broken the day down into hours, each hour has a focus topic which must not be distracted from. That has been a hard learnt lesson 1.
Lesson 2 is stay away from Jaaxy! I already have a well researched list of keywords from Jaaxy that need content written for them. Opening up Jaaxy is addictive. I pick a topic, any topic, and find low hanging keywords - I while away an easy hour. Do the difficult stuff, not the fun, easy stuff!
Lesson 3. Don't run before you can walk. I applied to be an Amazon affiliate for a yet to be born niche. Amazon UK looked at my single page, work in progress site and told me that it was not suitable as an affiliate website. A bit of a blow, but if I had thought about it before I applied it would have made sense. Funny that the US Amazon site welcomed me without even a look at my site. Well, some countries have higher standards! (that may get a response)

Lesson 4, check those backup files. A backup is not a backup unless you can use it to restore your site. I noticed that a backup file had grown to 7GB! This needed investigation and testing. Somehow the backup was backing up old backup files. Easily fixed, but come the day they might be needed, opening and extracting a 7GB file would take a long time.
Lesson 5, don't be tempted to purchase other exciting wordpress plugins until you know exactly what they do and how they compare with the WA recommended route. We are being sold to all the time! Focus on the lessons and follow them to the letter. XYZ plugin that looks as though it does the same thing as something described in a WA class may not be as great as you first have been told by their marketing.
So a summary, focus, focus, focus and write great content. Thanks for reading. Interested in what you have learnt this week, but schedule 'WA reply time' into your agenda.
