If You Don't Use It, You Lose It

Hello Everyone,

Most of us have probably heard this saying before. The title essentially means; whenever we learn any information or new skills and apply it often, our retention and skills get better. Conversely, when we do not use that information regularly, our skill and knowledge necessarily is depleted.

Our Beginning

We (my wife Kristy and I) joined WA back in October 2014 and became premium members shortly thereafter. My excitement level was high and I worked and studied affiliate marketing intensely for several weeks (sometimes to the neglect of other things) . But then something happened; I started to slip. First I did not login to WA one day at all. Then it was a week and then next thing I knew, it had been 3 months. I think you probably see where I am going with this.

Losing It

It was 2008 when I first looked at affiliate marketing. I remember saying to myself when we joined WA, "I wish I had started this years ago, I would be so much further ahead by now." I bet many of you have thought this exact same thing; have you not?

I recognized my neglect. So I started back working intensely about four weeks ago. Here is the "you lose it part." Because I was not doing at least one thing, anything or something everyday to work toward my goal and increase my knowledge I found my self having to start all over. Yep! I had to go back to week 1 training, class one and start all over. I had forgotten all these little tidbits that are essential to learning this business.

How Much Further Along Would I Be?

The answer is: about 3 months! I cannot stress enough, how important it is that we learn and do something everyday. Even the top professionals in this industry learn something new everyday. If one really wants to do this, you must not slip. You will only kick yourself in the future when you wise up and start to go back at it because you would have been that much further ahead.

Where Are We Now?

We have made a significant increase in our site's building and content. I have zero webmaster skills, rather I had zero. We now have content that is getting posted every few days and we are also starting to add some affiliate links. We have friends and great folks in the WA community (and they are rock stars; just sayin) that have came and visited our site and have left feed back and comments on our articles. We have done the same for them. Slipping again is not an option.

How to Keep Your Attitude Up!

Easy, you need feedback. Whenever we do something new we need feedback, so post it. We all want positive feedback. It helps us drive on when we see others progressing. It motivates me to do more also. There is another win. think about it; what motivated each of us in the beginning? It was seeing what others were doing and seeing the success of others that convinced all of to sing up for WA to begin with. The WA community matters. Each day you accomplish just one more thing you are on the path to another win! No matter how insignificant you think it is, it is another winning step toward your goal. Share your work. Get feedback, give feedback and resolve to take another step. Help others when you see similar questions that you had to work through. Last thing I want to do is lose it because I failed to get another win. Use it, don't lose it! What will you do today?

Here is a post concerning picking niches. It was written specifically for our site but it is fundamentally relevant to affiliate marketing.

Good point, same thing has happened to me. I went to work for Ice Rink company and stayed busy every day. My whole day was spent around that job.

I find that my mind likes my hands to be busy. I love building things and fixing things and working with people who do not pay attention Makes it easy to find things to fix

And working the Zam out there cleaning the ice is always fun, I wind the children up and get them very excited about getting out on the ice rink.

Now I am back at my desk learning it all over again. Buts thats okay, in the end I will win.

My goal is to have income coming in that does not require my babysitting the project or the 9 to 5 grind.

Thanks Cali. I think probably most of us understand that. That is exactly what happened to me. Got busy doing other things and forgot all thatI had learned. Keep on keeping on!

Thanks for sharing your story, man!
Great tips in this too

Thanks for reading, danbarth87
