Hi there,

I'm Danielle. I'm an entrepreneurial work-from-home unschooling mama of two kids with special needs. Wife and best friend of a medically retired US Marine and awesome motorcycle designer. Current/previous experience as a real estate agent, nonprofit board member, website design and content manager, editorial manager, search engine evaluator/internet analyst, software tester, child development program assistant, and foster mama. Lover of my family, all things outdoors, homesteading/hobby farming, furry and feathered critters, the scent of homemade bread baking, mixed media art, comfy pillows, and great books.

Here's to everyone's success, in whatever form that takes for each of us!

Hi, Danielle.

I found you just this evening, in the comment section of an old post of Carson's.

Noticing you'd joined WA Apr 3, 2009, I dashed right over to see if you're still active.

I'm delighted to see you are!

Are you as thrilled to be at WA as you were when you first joined?

Hey Danielle, read your message. I think you'll enjoy WA. There's a lot to learn, but it'll get easier as time progresses. It's a lot easier to learn stuff nowadays too because there's more great info in here better organized. Feel free to pm me or write a blog to the community if you run into any bumps. Take care. ~ Seth

Thanks Seth. I do enjoy WA very much. And I have enjoyed seeing it's evolution over the last few years, as well as the reorganization and addition of content. No troubles with WA...my only issue is balancing the other hats I wear offline with the time to move forward online. I keep making baby steps, which add up, but I'm looking forward to making bigger strides soon.

Hey Danielle, thank you for the follow. Glad to see you are with your best friend. We all go through so much in life. My daughter said today coming home from school, "I hate when it rains". I taught her that the flowers need the rain to grow, so the flowers love when it rains. I told her to be more like a flower and appreciate the many seasons we have in New Jersey and our lives. I always try to look at the glass half full. : Bill

Hi Bill, that's an exceptional attitude to have through life. The rain in our lives, while often initially unwelcome, is so often refreshing and cleansing, readying us for growth and new sunshine. Appreciating each season for what it brings is what enriches the experience of our lives.

Thank you for the follow back. I really enjoyed reading through your website. My daughter is five, and I just heard about the teach your baby to read-type resources available a few months ago. I remember learning to read by four, but never thought to push it, just exposing her to books and reading with her and playing letter games along the way. I love how natural and easy the content on your website it, like having a conversation about your child. It's fun to follow, and makes looking at the resources you offer more interesting!

Hi Danielle, most welcome! And appreciate you putting in the time to read my website, am afraid it's a work-in-progress, hope to beef it up a lot more soon. Been busy with the bootcamp, hence neglecting it for awhile:(.Glad you enjoyed reading my website though. Yes, you are right, forcing our kids to learn is not the way. Exposing them to as many things as possible, then nurturing the area which they enjoy/are good at, would be a better way to go! I went through your website too, and I really like your writing style, it draws the reader in! All the best in your online ventures:)

Hi Danielle. I have been riding for 47 years so I have owned all types from trail, street to cruiser. Until now, I have always had japanese but I am riding a Sportster now. I would love to see some of your work so, if you have it online, would you mind sending me the link? My stepson is just getting into building his own so I have him my old 1981 Honda 900C and he converted it into a cafe. Really nice job and I am looking forward to taking it for a spin this summer. I have been riding all winter and had a nice run today. There is a picture of my bike on my home page if you want to see it. Click on Motorcycling. Thank you for the follow back! I've enjoyed reading through your blog posts and published training, and visiting some of your websites. Thanks for giving back to WA members like me through sharing your experiences and successes...like you said in one post, slow and steady wins the race. I hope you're able to be back full force in the horse world and doing well. You're welcome, Claudia. I tried to post on your wall yesterday but had reached my limit. (Posted it today though. :-)

Please feel free to ask me anytime you have questions. I really do enjoy helping people out, and I often end up learning something myself as I do. (I did yesterday, helping someone set up a post with multiple pages, and found out the way I had done it would hurt me with Google, so I changed it and am much better off now! :-) I LOVE the support in this community!

Just make sure you keep going as you learn, and you'll do great. It's that action and momentum that matters, not knowing everything or achieving perfection.

You've been here longer than I have and we've never connected. Just shows what a huge platform WA really is. =)

You and your daughter are lovely! I was a special needs school bus driver a good few years back and the children I drove were VERY special. I loved every minute and miss the kids a lot! You are blessed to have such a beautiful family.

Look forward to chatting again and have a great day Danielle.

Hi Dee,

Thanks for the follow back. WA is a big platform for sure, but I think we haven't connected mostly because I've been a "lurker". Kinda ironic for someone who just blogged about connecting with the community, huh? ;-)

I just was more focused on priorities offline, and I've re-prioritized for this year so that I won't have to keep looking forward to the "someday" I'm living off the fruits of my highly successful online business. It would be great to actually start *doing* that, instead of knowing I'll do it one day!

Yes, my daughter is the best blessing in our life and I am deeply grateful to be able to be her mama and learn everything she has to teach me about life. It's at least as much as WA has to teach about business. lol

I loved your profile and the interests and hobbies you have. I was also drawn to your comment about "trying to find my people". I've bounced around the country as a military wife for twelve years, so feel a little like I'm missing roots. Putting them down in an online community at least gives me a place to be at "home" no matter where I live, right? :-)

Please stay in touch...I'm past my lurking days here!

Danielle

Hey Danielle, thanks so much for the follow. I agree 100% about the unschooling part you wrote about. I use to homeschool my children and for the first 2 years I couldn't wrap my mind around this unschooling but when I "got it" I loved it and so did my children.
It is so freeing and less demanding and the kids learn so much better.
I see you have been here since 2009, have you been having as much success as others? I know I've only been here since August 2012 and can't believe the things I've been taught.

Looking forward to seeing you around WA.

Thanks for following back, Audrey. We're relatively new to unschooling...I've always leaned more towards the principles (even in school where I did very well I always was memorizing info spit it back out on tests and then forget it...not really learning). I just didn't know there was a name for it. It's challenging to move past some of my own ingrained thought patterns, but it's really freeing to see how much more joy and peace there is once you really put it into practice.

I wish I'd been using WA to its potential since 2009. We've had a crazy life since I joined...moved three times and totally rehabbed one home, my husband was medically retired from the Marine Corps, I fostered my teen sister and her baby for a couple years...and then there's just the normal life stuff in all that craziness. :-) I did use the principles and techniques I've learned here while I was a real estate agent for a year in NC, which was very successful. So I've been able to use WA and enjoy success, but I haven't focused on building websites that can last for the long-term and eventually be more hands off than the jobs and such I've done.

I've refocused on that this year and am making it my priority. Going through Bootcamp right now and getting my WA site up, plus looking at a couple niches I can quickly put together some quality content and websites for. Now if only I could find a few more hours in the day... ;-)

Please keep in touch and let me know if you ever need anything!

Hi and thanks for the follow. I'm intrigued with your "unschooling" comment. Welcome
Reply
danyellalee Premium
Hi Rick, thank you for the follow back.

Unschooling is something we've jumped into in the last year or so, and we've not fully dived in yet...taking it in steps. Alot of times it is used as an educational description, meaning loosely that education focuses on a child's individual interests and you branch out to learn and study the world from there. But it is also applied to a way of living your life, learning to live with more compassion, more respect, and more support of following one's current interests and dreams, rather than following what's expected or the status quo. It's about people and relationships, in that sense.

It's actually quite a fun exploration for us, and if you're interested in learning more about the concepts, feel free to PM me and I can send you to some of the experts out there who've been doing it for a few decades...long before it became the popular "movement" that's happening now. :-)

Hi Kymee, thank you for the follow back.

I couldn't comment directly on your profile today (my comment limit was reached) but wanted to follow you because you have so many similarities to me...My husband and I have moved further into the country with each home we've lived in, and want to have our own patch of land to garden on and live off of. (Living in the middle of the city with the inlaws right now is a huge challenge for us!) I have four cats right now (grew up with dozens...they were always having kittens at my mom's and the neighbor's house!), and my husband and I are looking into traveling in an RV (fulltiming) for a year or two...have researched models & viewed several already. Having a rolling WA business makes this so much easier!

Please feel free to stay connected and let me know if I can help in anyway. I'd be happy to watch your journey to success! ;-)

Thank you Kymee! We'll be ready to look at financing in a couple of months. I already know it's pretty inexpensive in the long run...we went to a big RV show in Cleveland a couple months ago, and know we want either a fifth-wheel or travel trailer. We're also pretty well narrowed down for models, as we know we want a separate bunkroom for our daughter. I really wish I could find a travel trailer with slides in the bunkroom and master, but haven't seen one of those!

My biggest thing is finding inexpensive sites to stay, so we don't end up having $1000+ in "housing" expenses a month if we do jump in and go full time. I've heard vaguely about some membership or timeshare groups that supposedly make things cheaper...need to look more into that.

I will *definitely* keep you in mind as we get deeper into this! Thank you!

Thank you Randy. I loved this from your profile..." I am a person of faith and believe we are all on a journey for a purpose and that we should embrace that journey. Enjoy the experiences and lessons to be learned." (My comment limit for the day is reached or I'd have posted there.)

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The journey is the point of all of this...the learning, the growing, the integration of life experiences. Having faith to keep moving forward even when things don't seem to line up is so important. And doing so brings the sweetness and rewards of success...even if that success is as simple as having made it to the next step!

I hope you're enjoying WA!

Hi Ben, things are going pretty well. Just taking action every day, making small steps forward, staying focused on my purpose in all of this.

Unschooling is a way of education for some, a way of life for others. We're somewhere in between, learning to live with more compassion, more respect, and more support of following one's current interests and dreams, rather than following what's expected or the status quo. It's a pretty awesome mindset and experience for everyone, young kids and us bigger ones, too! ;-)

I loved reading your profile (I've replied to followers' comments and profiles today, and "reached my daily profile post limit", so couldn't comment directly on yours) and especially your goal to make money from home so you can "do more with and for" your kids. That's my motivation...that my family can be together and we can be free to enjoy whatever interests or experiences that call to us, and that my family's needs are 100% met.

You're absolutely right about your nephew...kids with DS bring something unique to our world, and it feels like a breath of fresh air in so many cases. But all kids have their "something special" that makes our hearts sing, right? :-)

I look forward to seeing you around WA too!
