This Thursday, I'll be playing in my first golf day! I've only been playing for a couple of years, so I'm not expecting to break any records. But that's not the point - I'm just there to enjoy the game and have some fun with my colleagues. This is also a great opportunity to improve my skills and learn from more experienced players. I've played a number of local course that are 9 holes but this will be my first full 18 hole golf course, with the added incentives of prizes. Wish me luck!

We will be playing the Kendal Golf Course

Kendal Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course that was designed by world-renowned golf course architect Donald Ross. The course is located in the heart of the Lake District National Park, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The course is well-maintained, and it features a variety of challenging holes. There is also a clubhouse, pro shop, and restaurant on site. Kendal Golf Course is one of the best courses in the UK, and it is definitely worth a visit.

Stableford 4's

I've been informed that we are playing Stableford 4 rules with the top two scores (from each 4 person team) count. Under stableford rules, players earn points for each hole based on their score relative to par. For example, a birdie (1 under par) would earn 2 points, while a double bogey or worse would result in zero points. The goal is to finish with the highest point total at the end of the round.

Hopefully I will be teamed with a couple of good players, this will take off any added pressure and allow me to really just relax and enjoy the game.

Regardless of the outcome, I'm sure it will be a great day, wish me luck and I'll let you know how I get on.

Just as an update, our team finished 6th out of 12 and just outside of the prizes (5 teams won prizes). I managed to shoot 9 pars overall and the remaining 9 were a mix of 1-3 shots over.

I had an amazing day and met some great people who gave me some valuable tips and advice to further improve my game. The views from almost every hole on the course were amazing, my legs are definitely feeling it a little today but I cannot wait for the next one now. Thanks for your comments on this post, they really helped me to just relax and enjoy the day....after the first tee shot nerves.

I hope you do well. Eighteen holes will be fun.
Jim

Thanks Jim, I'm looking forward to it.

I wish you all the very best at your first crack on an eighteen hole course Danny....

I wish I could play golf competitively again, but I enjoy it when I can...

Thanks, I have no real intention of being overly competitive. I'm just enjoying learning a new sport and in all honesty I previously never had any interest in golf in any capacity, I just assumed I wouldn't like it...turns out I was wrong.

Hahaha!! We never know what we like until we try my friend!!

I felt the same way about fishing many moons ago until I gave it go.. then I loved it and used to go on my own if none of my mates wanted to come...

Golf is a fantastic sport though... enjoy yourself as your skills improve you will love it more and more as the days pass my friend!!

Yeah it's so true, that's why it's so important to keep trying new things, even more so if you 'think' you won't like it.

It's great that you were so comfortable with fishing to go out on your own. Not only are you doing something you enjoy but you also benefit from the peace and quiet and more than a few stunning views I bet.

Absolutely my friend and I have certainly seen some stunning views over the years!

I hope you have a great round of golf if you have a good mix of handicaps, you should be able to pick up points. i remember when I had my first round of golf which I enjoyed say no more about the score. It was a start, and I did go on to be registered as a senior professional golfer. I have played Kendal a few times over the years good course if my memory serves me well. I hope you enjoyed your day More importantly I have you have an illustrious career and look forward to following your progress

I'm sure it will be a good day. That's awesome, any tips for any particular hole?

I appreciate the confidence, but I'm just enjoying learning the game now and taking part in these kind of days will only fuel the hunger to improve I guess.

When it comes to golf the only advice I can give is to practice, practice, and more practice. Just keep enjoying your golf. Hope you had a great day.

Thanks, it was a great day certainly a longer course than I was expecting. Yeah I look forward to putting in some practice over the next few years to improve my game.

Sounds great, Danny

Have fun! 😎

Frank

Thanks Frank, I'm sure it will be a great day.
