It is definitely advisable to convert images to WebP format, it helped me a lot with my website speed. You can do the conversion using this tool:

I'm aware that Google PageSpeed Insights suggest using the Performance Lab plugin, but I wasn't able to do that here - I believe the plugin may be blacklisted on WA hosting.
Imagify is also blacklisted on WA hosting. The image optimization plugin I use is the free version of Smush, and it's doing a good job so far.
There are many plugins that help with optimizing JavaScript and CSS codes. Autoptimize is a good example, so you can try it if you wish.
Keep in mind that some plugins are incompatible with certain themes and other plugins, so if you find that a certain plugin doesn't do a good job, just deactivate it and consider using another one.
For example, the Autoptimize plugin has many great reviews, but it wrecked my website, so I don't use it.

These rules just applied recently.
Before that, free starters could not communicate with the platform after the initial seven days. (two years)?
Are you sure you are referring to WA?
As a starter, you get access to a siterubix subdomain.
Training is also limited, and the starter account is a test drive of the Wealthy Affiliate platform to see if it fits your business needs and objectives. You get the one siterubix subdomain.
When you decide to upgrade, you will be provided with the tools, training, and a dot com domain name.

Free members have access to the first 5 lessons in the OEC and Bootcamp for as long as they stay a free member. It’s the access to communicating with other members that stops.

Hi Daniel you can remain a starter member for free as long as you like. There is no limit and the free starter membership never expires.
But it is very limited and I recommend upgrading to premium when you can so you can get the most out of wealthy affiliate and full access to all of the training.
As Diane stated below the free siterubix domain is only valid for 6 months and then it is deleted. Therefore it is best to upgrade to premium before then and also purchase your own domain.
Having your own domain is best and it is low cost. To summarize the starter membership is free forever but it is very limited. I strongly recommend you upgrade to premium when you can so you get the most out of WA and will have everything you need to run your online business.

But there is very little point in doing this.
They have very limited access to the platform; they can't use Site Content, Jaaxy, or the Promote tab.
However, the free SiteRubix domain is only valid for six months.
At that point, if the member doesn't upgrade, their website will be deleted.
