Relevant Feedback

So recently I asked for feedback on my site which I have done many times before. Every time I've done so, I often got things like "great job", "site looks good" "awesome name and niche", etc. Don't get me wrong, if all you have is complements I want to know if what I'm doing is catchy and eye pleasing. The worst thing I ever got was "hey why don't you try darker writing", "Accentuate your titles". This was pretty much the norm I had gotten used to until my most recent request for feedback. This time I got just that, not what I got used to hearing or even wanted to hear but definitely something I needed to be told. I had two people give me feedback I wasn't expecting, it was negative feedback. For a moment, a very short one, I felt like I got a kick in the gut but as I read their comment, what they were saying made complete sense. When I went to my site and looked at what they were telling me I couldn't believe my eyes, they were right. What I posted really did not belong there and would not have been ranked by Google. So obviously, I fixed it and thanked them for showing me what I was doing, even though I thought it was good, did more harm then good for my site.

This experience has taught me something I knew but didn't really focus on till now. I keep reading that WA is a community and we are here to help each other and that makes so much more sense to me now. I want the truth, the cold hard truth. I don't want sugar coated feedback because that won't help me. I appreciate the positive feedback, I really do and keep it coming if you really think my site is good. However, if you see something that is really wrong with my site I really need you and want you to give me the bad news. I want to succeed at this and, just like my trades apprenticeship, I need my mentors to guide me in the right direction whether the criticism is harsh or not. I have commented on sites that I found hard to follow and navigate thru but instead of letting them know that, I only gave them the complement part of my feedback cause I didn't want to hurt their feeling or discourage them. I promise from now on my feedback, good or bad, will be my honest opinion. I'm not saying I'm going to find everything that I think is wrong with your site, all I'm saying is if I do notice something that needs to be brought to your attention I will do it. So please don't take these comments, whether they are from me or anyone else on here, as a personal attack or allow them to discourage you. This type of feedback is what will help you succeed.

When I post on the Give and Take thread, I always ask for HONEST feedback. I get it a lot of the times, but there is always the "good job" stuff. People don't want to hurt feelings or discourage or maybe they simply don't know. So hang in there for the honest help you WILL get.

Thanks Carlalves, I've definitely been getting more helpful feedback since posting this.

The info you have is a good start. What wouldd help you on your home page is to break it up into like 3 topics with a title for each in bold and H2 format. That way it will give you 3 more pages to build from to build out your site. I hope this is helpful to you
good luck
Tommy

Hey Tommy, this is definitely helpful. I'll give it a try tonight and see how it turns out.
