Will You Miss The Opportunity?
Mistakes and missed opportunies are part of life and the learning curve. They are almost inevitable. And the best thing to do is to learn from them.
However, you don't necessarily have to make a mistake to learn from it. The best option is to learn from other people mistakes, what they do, and what they could do differently. I am sure you agree that it is the best learning curve.
I came across the video of the big companies that made mistakes. They miss their opportunity when they have the chance to make something excellent.
Companys like Kodak, Excite, Blockbuster, Nokia.
And it reminds me of the opportunity we all have here at Wealthy Affiliate. Each and every one of us. First, let me point out the mistakes those companies made.
Kodak
They had the first digital camera back in 1977. They had the technology to store images at the size of 100 kilobytes.
But, they made so much money out of films that they left this new technology to gather dust, not realizing its potential.
When they decided to get into the digital camera market, they were selling cameras at the lost and still couldn't catch up for their competitors who see the potential digital camera early on..
Opportunity missed.
Excite
Excite could have bought the Google for less than $1 million back in 1999 when Excite was number two search engine, right behind the Yahoo. Google back then was the new kid on the block in the world of internet.
Google was offered to be sold to Excite for $750.000, 1% of Excite worth, so the price wasn't an issue. They declined. In 2004 Excite was bought by Ask.com.
Google today have around $147 billion in the worth of assets, which is more than 196.000 times what Excite would have paid for them.
Opportunity missed.
Blockbuster
One of the largest VHS renatal stores turned the opportunity to buy Netflix in 2000. They not only turned them down but laugh at their proposal. But because of the change of Blockbuster CEO and wrong strategy in 2007, they start to lose the market and in a few years later they bankrupt, leaving all the market to Netflix.
Opportunity missed.
Nokia
Nokia declined not to use android for their phones in 2010. In 2007, when the iPhone was released, they realized there was a threat to the market. Nokia development team split into two parts, trying to find a solution for it.
But those two teams were fighting for resources to develop their software which lead to a major drawback in tech developing.
The logical solution was the usage of an android, open-source platform. But Nokia CEO decided not to do that calling it a short-term solution, saying it would be "pissing in your pants in winter to keep warm."
Opportunity missed.

Great post!!
It is true that missed opportunities happen every day, but unfortunately sometimes it can have quite negative consequences and put a brake on a career. So it's always better to get on the bandwagon and see if the new road is right for us.
