If you're new to affiliate marketing then it can become pretty easy to find yourself getting caught up focusing heavily on earning commissions.

And it's understandable... After all, that's why you're here, right? To make money?

But putting a primary focus onto earning commissions can actually be hugely detrimental to your success, especially at the earlier stages of your journey.

You see, the reality is that if affiliate marketing is brand new to you then it is likely going to take you a little time to begin accruing commissions & earning any money.

And that can leave you feeling frustrated.

It can leave you asking questions such as:

  • Does this really work?
  • Will it work for me?
  • Can I really do this?
  • Am I doing everything wrong?
  • What if I'm just not cut out for this?

But what most people don't realize is that even though they are not yet earning commissions in the earlier stages of their journey, they are still accruing profits.

In fact, without even knowing it - you could literally be earning as much as $67 for every single hour that you spend working on your website, even if you're not earning commissions.

How!?... I hear you ask.

Well, I've already referenced it in a previous post of mine, but I want you to take another look at the screenshot below:

The picture above shows a listing for a niche website (the exact same type of website that you're taught how to build here at Wealthy Affiliate) on a marketplace for websites.

  • The website was launched in May 2019
  • It has a mere 78 posts
  • Each post on average is around 1,200 words

So, at the time the listing was active, the website was just a little over 1 year old which means on average, the creator had been posting around 2 new posts each week (1.5, to be exact).

And given that each post is around 1,200 words long, the creator probably spent around 3-4 hours each week creating that content to publish onto their site.

In other words, that's 156 hours per year... And they sold the site for $10,500+

So if we divide that sale by the amount of estimated hours that they put into working on their site, then that equates to a whopping ~$67 for every hour they spent creating content.

Now, ask yourself this... If somebody promised to pay you $67 per hour, would you continue working on your website each week, even if it was not necessarily earning any commissions?

Of course you would!

So I just want you to use this post as a realization that even if you are not yet earning money, your work is not for nothing. It never is. Everything additional effort you make & every additional piece of content that you create is going towards building you a potentially very valuable asset.

And of course, I am not suggesting you should ever sell your website... Because there's a reason people are willing to pay big bucks for these kinds of sites. They're willing to pay it because they know what huge potential they have to generate long-term recurring revenue.

Anyway, just some food for thought. Keep pushing forward!

Thanks for the insight, Dale The problem I am having is the physical part of not having the income coming in to pay for what I am putting out now? I keep putting in the time and adding content to my sight and changing things around but not seeing the gratuities as I should say of my work? I am being patient in this ordeal but there needs to be a time it all comes through. We all need a little incentive in this venture?

Hey thanks man I do like what you said because I was feeling little like that but I'm not giving up at all I'm guns keep pushing it's just Lil crazy tryna find enough time with everything else I got going but I'm gonna make more time because I like the sound of everything I hear from other members

Thanks for this piece. Here my only worry is how I can pay the monthly subscription fee of 49 dollars without earning it from my online business. You know most of us we need success we need money but the mere problem is the initial capital. You may find that I can pay for this month and for the next one I can't meaning that my chances for success are really so little

Thanks Dale for the info. The same thoughts with Ruach2breath. Not easy. It needs focus and concentration but I can not do as I can not afford to retire. But I’m definitely need to learn this and becomes my future lifestyle.
Fascinating reading the communities experiences before they become successful!

Lots to learn and achieve.,

Good morning Dale, not coming along to fast as this is not my primary work, my question is what is content and what does it look like? And what do people post about? Are the only customers that you work with WA members?
Computer work has always been really hard for me to understand, no matter how simple it seems to many others it feels like a mountain to me, I rewatch the training over and over again trying to understand the process, but much of the training my brain just can't seem to comprehend, I haven't focused on earning money as I have no idea what I need to create or am creating or what building out my website is supposed to look like.
When I study to learn I get tired so quickly and fall asleep, I really try to focus but my head just seems to go crazy and and fatigue just takes over so I'm not moving as fast as my desires.
I would gladly send you a link to what I've accomplished so far on my website but I don't know how to do that.
I watched a training video which was recorded that I understood to be included in premium membership, then a timer came on so I got ready to watch the live training but as live training started I only heard a few words and it froze and said I had to have premium plus to watch, so lots of things I don't have a clear concept of but I plan to keep on going.
How does it work to do affiliate marketing while working my regular job which consists of 12 hours a days 5 days per week?
Thanks for reaching out.
