Should COVID-19 Vaccination be Made Mandatory?
I got my Covid-19 shot today, Thursday, February 25, 2021. Hooray! This vaccination has put paid to the hesitancy I had experienced before now. There had been so much skepticism swirling around the vaccine even before Pfizer announced that it had just rolled off its first doses from its manufacturing plants
Today it’s only 7% of an estimated 328.2 million Americans have been vaccinated against this menace which has robbed us of over half a million Americans, a toll, that is higher than all the toll we suffered from all the wars we have fought so far
For this country to experience herd immunity, it needs 70% of its population vaccinated. The infectious disease experts are all agreed on the fact that if this number is achieved, it will be enough to stop the spread of this disease.
When we achieve herd immunity, our Country will be protected against the virus and it will include those who are themselves immune so we can go back to our normal way of life and stop wearing masks as a fashion statement
Demand for the vaccine is high right now and it clearly outstrips supply. That’s a good sign.
But just as there’s enthusiasm for the vaccination on one hand, there is hesitancy and outright skepticism on the other
There are new strains of the COVID-19 virus that are potentially more dangerous than the current strain so there’s a need for government to fast-track our vaccination effort
There are anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists who are campaigning vigorously against vaccination and urging people not to take it just when we need to speed up the process.
So should COVID-19 vaccinations be made mandatory in the face of the risks that we face or, in the alternative, should the government allow vaccinated people to enjoy certain privileges that will force people to take the jab?

Hi Dada, in no way do I think the Covid-19 vaccine should be made mandatory. I do not think anyone should have the power to make decisions for you.
These are new vaccines that have not yet been proven. We have no idea if there will be any side effects down the line.

We lose a lot more people every year from heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Since this pandemic started, all the media pushes is FEAR there has been no real talk about health or building our immune systems naturally, cause no one makes money that way. If you want real change and results take control of your health and life instead of being a human guinea pig to big pharma and pretending that the government cares about you... People of color should be even more skeptical about what they think the government should mandate or not... Research The Tuskegee Experiment 1932 (itlasted for 40 years) and tell me again how you want the government more involved in your health. Also, research Monsanto, who now runs the government's USDA, and tell me again how much they care about you.

Thank you for your well reasoned argument why you would not take the vaccine. The Tuskegee experiment is an example of man's inhumanity to man and must have contributed to the hesitancy shown by blacks and minorities.

Not no but hell no. I agree that people should take the vaccine but there is already too much government intrusion in our lives. I'm not a lawyer but I would think that such a mandate would be unconstitutional in the USA.
I don't know how the system works in other countries but I would think that those with a western type democracy there are legal protections against any mandate ordering people to introduce any substance into their bodies against their will.
You are so right, zydegeaux, nobody, not even the government can force you to take the vaccine.We live in a country where people's rights and freedoms are protected.
I think it should be mandatory. That way people would just get it and not debate over it. If vaccination is the only way to get rid of it, how can anyone refuse. It is their civic and moral duty to protect themselvesfamily community and country.
Its like people not abiding by lockdown rules. They are potential killers.
I totally agree with you that vaccination should be made mandatory for some time. We need 70% of Americans vaccinated to bring about the herd immunity and defeat this monster that has robbed us of our way of life.
If no choice then takes worry away from those who aren't sure. I find it hard to accept why everyone wouldn't be queuing up for it. But I suppose some people don't like injections and some don't like putting medicines of any type into their body etc. I'm getting my first jab on 1st April, but I'm no fool lol. Have a good day

Mandatory? Not even!!! Maybe they should make it mandatory for you to give 3/4 of your income to someone who doesn't have as much as you (something you don't want to happen). Just because one person wants it doesn't mean that others do. Keep the government out of demanding citizens to do something they don't want to do.
I'm not necessarily an 'anti-vaxxer' but I'm not about to get one. I've never taken a flu shot and have never had the flu...
You asked what I think and that's what I think. You're entitled to your opinion but others should not have to live by it.
Thank you for your strong anti-vaccine opinions. You are entitled to your opinions. It's just that with such strong opinions against vaccination, it makes it difficult for us to achieve herd immunity and go back to our normal way of doing things.
