Priorities - a must

One of the challenges in this WA process and implementation is being able to dedicate enough time to the build of website and content to drive traffic to a site. The process is laid out very well and the tools are here; but balancing this and family and other jobs can be difficult. I am retired and understand how it was when I was working a full time job and raising a family as well. I salute those of you who are doing those things and also chose to work at the WA process.

In retirement I wonder how I ever had time for a full time job. Activities and responsibilities keep filling your day. As soon as you clear one thing another falls in its place. A couple of things I do that seems to help keep my priorities in place and helps organize my activities.

1. Use a good calendar application that syncs between several calendars. Google calendar works for us and we can sync between our personal calendar and the calendars of some organizations where we volunteer. With smart phones and tablets the syncing of several calendars is relatively easy.

2. After fighting the time battle for a few weeks when I started at WA, I decided to place set times when I would work on my website and training. I found that by getting up earlier I could easily put in 4 hours by 10am and then still have many hours left for other activities. I picked early morning because the house is quiet then and I was free of other distractions. Whenever you quiet time is, set aside some of it for WA projects as well.

Since I organized my WA work time into my days, I feel like I am able to get more done and think more clearly while taking the training classes or seminars. I realize that this is written from the retirement life view, However, when I retired I soon realized that most people do not really retire, they just fill their live with different activities than before. The big plus is that most of us retired people can make our own schedule around our priorities not the priorities of a job.

For those of you with young children and a job; set your priorities and stick to them. Your children will soon be raising their own family. That is another big change for you as well. Meanwhile enjoy the present and enjoy your weekends with your family.

Hope this blog helps in some way. I know just writing it has helped me verify the direction I took with WA and my priorities.

I welcome your comments and stories of how you deal with the juggling act we call life.

Thanks for letting me bend your ear (or eyes).

"...most people do not really retire, they just fill their live with different activities than before..."

I am sure! I am the one in the household with the "flexible" schedule and I find EVERYTHING flexes into it! -Alexx

Trying to do this, run a small business, a ministry, and do solar panel installs sucks up a good part of the day. In the evening my brain wants to shut down, it just don't shut up. Being as hot as it is here now it is difficult to sleep more than an hour at a time without waking up wet from sweating.
Not giving up on my dream of being able to travel and still have income coming in instead of income going out.
Great blog, thanks for sharing with us.
