Memories of Days Gone By

I have a long week to live through as I anxiously await for the upcoming weekend to arrive of my 45th high school class reunion. D Several of us have reminisced over Facebook about the changes our little town had gone through, to the changes of things we did for fun. I realized long ago that not only has our little town changed, but times have changed as well.

I don't imagine that it was this way in the larger cities, but I can remember going to bed at night without my dad having to lock the doors. Now we keep them locked day and night.

Things We Did

It was nothing for all the kids in the neighborhood, no matter your age, to be seen playing baseball or football in the biggest yard on the block. We ate meals together as a family, before going back outside to catch lightening bugs until we were called inside for the night. Parents could let their children play outside without fear of them coming up missing.

You could have more than one best friend and could tell her or him who you had a crush on without it going any further. You didn't date until you were at least 16 and then the boy came to your house to pick you up and meet your parents. The boys also opened doors for us girls and pulled our chairs out when seating in a restaurant.

We Talked

Most of all, we talked to one another, either in person or over the phone. We knew each others hopes, dreams and plans for the future because we were all friends.

But now we don't do that so much. Now we are so busy with life's problems that we don't have time to visit with friends, unless at church or the grocery store, much less talk on the phone. But we do have the technology that allows us to text or email each other.

Nerve Finely Found

Here at WA, technology is the only feasible way to communicate with one another. And as for myself communicating with other members, I've been a little shy about voicing my questions for "the world" to see fo fear of, for lack of better words, being thought of as dumb for my lack of technical knowledge no matter how many times I read "There is no such thing as a dumb question". I realize that this is my own lack of self-confidence in knowledge of technology that has kept me silent.

This is no one's fault but my own as everyone here has been very helpful to me when I asked a question. I have tried to welcome newbies with encouragement and tell of my appreciation of posts made by my fellow WA community members that gave me insightful information.

I guess what I am so badly saying is, those of us who have little or no training in computers, don't be self-conscious about what to post or ask like I was. Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. If we don't know how to answer your question, like me most of the time, we tell you and hope someone else comes along that can help you. "Talk" to one another. We can't help each other unless we "talk" to one another. After all, we're all here for the same thing, to reach our goals whatever they might be. Thanks for listening and may God bless.

Memories never had left us when it comes to high school life. We had many reunions already and I was able to attend nothing. Because I was not always free to just attend and leave. I was just an employee. One good thing about being here is everyone can write and every one is appreciated. A very respectful community and smart too. Keep it going Charlotte.
