Peace and Calm

There is something so special to me about the one day a year where everything slows down. December 25th is a day where almost all industry and businesses in the US pause - and while I know it is a hard day for many, and there are many who have to continue to work through the holiday (and I am thankful for those that do, be it healthcare or emergency services or any other number of things), for most it is a day of rest. People are home, with families, the roads are quiet, the stores are shut. It is a unique quiet, like the calm and peace that comes with a freshly fallen snow. I cherish that feeling. It is a calm I actively try to summon within myself when faced with the anxieties and stresses each day can bring. I wish we had more days like that, instead of the singular one within the other 364 days of a year. Perhaps such a day can serve as a reminder to make such days within our lives when we can. Peace and calm is immensely restorative and US culture pushes the work agenda on us so relentlessly. It is something I aim to work into my life more and more as I am able, and hopefully this new path of writing and teaching through blogging will help. Wishing you all rest and peace!

It could be Christmas every day, and that would not bother me a bit, Claire!

Well said!

I just love it. I've been to other countries where they slow down on Sundays, like in Germany, and I just wish there was a better appreciation of focusing on things other than work here in the US.

I totally agree, Claire! I am working most days, but there are several times each day where I enjoy leisure, as well!
