A Ghost Of A Chance!

When I Googled "Ghost GIFs" for the purpose of this Post, this compelling image was under the heading "Images for Ghost." It was not in with the Ghost GIFs, but, as I looked at the image, it was obviously moving, if ever so slightly! Of course, there was no way to copy it as an animated image, and when I copied it as a regular image, the movement was lost.

Creepy! (I swear it was moving!)

As I began to ponder the phrase "Ghost of a Chance," my first thought, as a songwriter, was "great hook!" A song that, for me, would be pretty easy to write.

When I looked it up on Google, I discovered that "Ghost of a Chance" was a 2009 album by the Danish band Turboweekend (a band I've never heard of).

The band Rush (who I am familiar with) also had a song called "Ghost of a Chance," from their 1992 album, Roll the Bones. I haven't heard the song, although my bass player, Todd, is probably familiar with it, as he is a huge Rush fan.

In 1932, a guy named Victor Young wrote a song called "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You" (way before my time).

There have also been numerous TV show episodes entitled "Ghost of a Chance."

It really doesn't matter...Song titles cannot be copyrighted, which means I could write a song called "Yesterday," or "Satisfaction," or "New York, New York," or "Ghost of a Chance," the latter of which I just may do, Turboweekend, Rush, and Victor Young notwithstanding.

The other songs, not so much.

Ghost of a chance means that a very slim possibility exists for something to happen.

Ghosts have the ability to walk through closed doors or walls...

These scenes are always scary, like in "The Exorcist," when the possessed girl, Megan, contorts her body and crawls down the staircase in an eerie manner. Not sure how this one is done, but they can do incredible things with special effects now, and lots of horror movies use real-life contortionists, who can put their bodies into some bizarre positions!

On the other hand, the 1990 supernatural romance, "Ghost," resulted in lots of women falling in love with Patrick Swayze. Of course, 1987's "Dirty Dancing" didn't hurt either!

Is this a disembodied spirit, playfully leaping over a hospitalized person?

A ghost materializing in a hallway...or a photographic trick?

A shadowy high-five...

Departing souls, following the sinking of the Titanic...

There have been stories of spirits with the ability to manifest themselves physically-watch this girl being pulled by her leg!

Those Japanese flicks, where the person looks under the bed, only to be startled by a blue-faced, big-eyed spirit, are eerie!

Another scary image...

Little girls are used in many movies, as either returning spirits, or as a conduit between this world and the next, as in "Poltergeist."

Vintage spiritual "evidence," from 1856...

"Harry Potter" ghosts...

Spirit "materializing"

Not what you want to see in your hallway in the middle of the night!

Tiny person?

Sometimes, things are not what they seem...

On the other hand...

I believe this is from "The Ring,"

Disney Park ghosts...

Your crazy aunt finally went off the deep end!

Somehow, I'd rather face that gluttonous American blob than the Asian chick with the hair-covered face! You just know she's gonna be super scary when she pulls back that hair!

There's just something about a face you can't see...

"Get back in bed, Megan. You know you haven't been feeling well!"

See what I mean about little girls?

OK, a clown is not a ghost, but this guy is disturbing enough to keep you away from the circus for a few decades!

And there's always been something about being in the shower at night, after we saw Janet Leigh's shower scene in 's Alfred Hitchcock thriller, "Psycho!"

"Beetlejuice,"

Old ghost cartoon...

"Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!"

He'll never convince me he's real...he doesn't have a leg to stand on!

Though she died 20 years ago, you can still see her there today, standing on the hill in her long, white dress...

Frightening, somehow...

A beautiful woman, in a long gown, sitting alone in the rain at night. You might say, "Oh, sure, I'd just go up and talk to her," but would you, really? What if you heard later: "That's Belle of the Bridge...she drowned herself in the river more than 50 years ago..."

Have you ever seen a ghost?

All the classic elements...The little girl, at night, barefoot, wearing a dress, standing there on the cliff, staring at you, with a forlorn look on her face...you just know she plunged to her death on the rocks below, nearly 200 years ago!

Not sure what this is, but it's a little unsettling...

Blending into the scenery...

A rainy night in a cemetery-a good place to see a ghost...

Old, abandoned houses are good places for ghosts...

Casper the friendly ghost, feeling blue...

A link to the past...

"They call me Misty..."

Aw, no, that's not "resting in peace!"

Fact is, with all the training and support we've got here at WA, we've got much more than a "ghost of a chance!"

Follow the steps, and you'll succeed.

Just keep a positive attitude...That's the spirit!

Thank you, Beth. :)

Women who bring life into the world create a fantastistic mysticism about leaving it. They factor into many a ghostly vision and story Rick!

Seems like more women ghosts than men, Mike-You're right!
