What do you think about TEAMWORK?

For so many decades, we have been hearing the expression TEAMWORK. For many of us, TEAMWORK has been in our vocabulary since the day we were born. For the majority of us, we have been using this expression when we started our first job. How motivated it has been when our first boss or our first team leader screamed TEAMWORK! Our thinking was not about how much we were making an hour, or how many hours we have been working, or what time during the day it was. Our goal and unique goal at this time was to accomplish a common project successfully. And that was the key. And I believe it should have been also the key in today’s society.

Despite the fact that the expression TEAMWORK looks so familiar to each one of us today, apparently it was first recorded in our vocabulary about 200 years ago. You do the math: TEAM + WORK = TEAMWORK. According to Dictionary.com, we can find two simple definitions of TEAMWORK: 1-“cooperative or coordinated effort on the part of a group of persons acting together as a team or in the interests of a common cause;” 2- “work done with a team”. Can we identify the spirit of TEAMWORK around us?

Unfortunately, as years go by, TEAMWORK has lost its power and its essence in our workplace. We can observe that TEAMWORK loss of interest in every Generation is increasing enormously. Scary….! People have more tendencies to do things just by themselves, just for themselves and ironically just with themselves. It becomes a challenge to find co-workers or team members to reach out in order to accomplish a common project.

However, companies whose employees are leaning more toward TEAMWORK are the ones succeeding. They are doing great. They excel. Workers for those companies are zealous to go to work. They are motivated and they are more innovative. Yes, they bring brilliant ideas to the table. The reason is because they know that the daily workload will not be heavy for them. At least another helpful hand or multiple hands will help them carry that load. They know other team members will help them explode this brilliant idea for the well-being of their company. Yes, I mean TEAMWORK.
