First Week - WA Day 7
Who and Where?
- I’m a professional virtual personal assistant / creative genuis, based in Cheltenham (work) and Tewkesbury (live).
- I started self-employment (VPA) in 2012 due mostly to the commute.
- I am a full time driver, a part-time undergrad and a part-time VA.
- I work best from my home office with zero distractions.
- I’ve been described as a perfectionist with a high work ethic … which I guess translates to being obsessively compulsive when it comes to my work, business or clients.
- I am quite content being the creative genius behind the scenes,but sometimes people want to know who I am ...
Random Facts ...
- I’m a dual citizen of South Africa and the EU. Born in South Africa but lived in the United Kingdom for the past 20 years.
- I am extremely talented when it comes to organising other people’s personal or business lives … yet totally clueless when it comes to organising my own. (time)
- I am extremely creative and do come up with some awesome ideas and create awesome social media/blog banners to promote said ideas. Bottom line ... REWARD = MANY CLICKS ... Many CLICKS = Potential Business
- I dream of becoming a successful writer, (if only for that one book we all have in us), but can never find the time to put my thoughts down in one place, so I choose to help those authors who have managed to create their masterpiece(s) instead.
- The amount of random movie knowledge I have would scare you, but don’t suddenly ask me someone’s name cos I have slept since then.
- My love of red meat will me simply not a vegetarian make.
- Best to get me on email, as one never knows which part of the world I might be in, so as to avoid the unexpected roaming charges.
- My other job is a part time Software engineering and Mathematics student ... with an interest in cryptology.
Enter Wealthy Affiliate
So been here at Wealthy Affiliate for 1 week. Have had very many highs and a few lows. Mostly HIGH's thankfully. (how i got here, in another post)
The Highs ...
- Flew through Course 1 Certification as decided to do both bootcamp and Cert. (Hunger for knowledge and don't want to miss a trick ... it's my nature) TICK
- Set up website, although been a Wordpress junkie for many years, decided on a simple template because I like dark website backgrounds. TICK
My other business has a seriously awesome premium theme so didn't bother with the premium themes as they (the themes) are all trying to get you to upgrade. TICK
- For this particular website, I have decided to keep it simple and rather let my blogs/pages and reviews get rankings than worry about sexy website, as this is more focused on my blog with WA.
- I guess what I'm trying to say is "forget the bells and whistles, let the content speak for itself". TICK
- So only really managed to set up the pages. Still working on posts ... but filter it must so sent if off to google to get indexed. TICK
- Sent off my first WA promo tweet using an affiliate link direct to WA (not via my site) and got over 200 unique clicks in 2 days.
The Lows ...
- Tweet outcomes ...
- Sadly, I had no sign ups which was bizarre as was free so wondering how this is possible as always get signups, especially out of over 200 unique clicks, there should have been something.
- Tried to help a few people on Chat, most successfully, but made a slight mistake (mixing a the word rank, with index) and some nasty creature gave me shit for it.
- Have since cancelled my premium as don't need the negativity in my life, as thought we were all here to learn and help each other and although I did apologise for "said error", it went on and on!
- Shame, this site was otherwise pretty darn awesome! And for everyone else it probably will be.
- Tried to reinstate my free month, even though I paid $19 for the month, but it now wants to take $34 today, (7 days in) ... yet still in my free month I paid for ... so won't bother right now. Don't have money to throw away at the moment what with Christmas coming up and will see if anything bites before next month.
- So wondering if its worth promoting WA anymore as what commission would I get if there's a big red banner at the top of my page??
- And why can't I turn chat off??? Its so distracting when you are trying to write blogs lol. Be a nice feature for "quiet hours".
It's been real!
So thank you to the awesome community you are. (well mostly) ... I would still like to promote WA, but getting answers here is quite a mission and when i really need the nitty gritty, all the blogs or lessons don't really tell me what I want to know.
Rankings vs. Indexing
I was under the impression that using siteContent allowed WA to track your posts and pages and with it ... their google rankings.
Even though there are far too many editing problems with siteContent, I will still try and use it to publish ONE blog, to test the theory.
Again ... maybe a proper answer will come out of the materials, which I have skimmed, yet found nothing concrete.
Bottom Line
I will still promote WA because it is pretty darn awesome, but I will rather write blogs about it from my VA business blog (using my link) in the hopes that I get some credit down the line. People DO need to know about WA, and I am still wondering how I never found it in my past 6 years of being on social media.
What I have learned in skimming through is what I knew all along really, content is king and with proper keywords, rankings will appear.
Nothing really new to me there, and as I can hardly find the time to do a part-time degree, part-time VA and full time driving job, if I had the time, I would honestly be ranking my own VA business.

Love you guys that I have met along my very short journey. I wish you all the best success in your WA venture. I wish you all the love in the world and thank you for making my experience so very exciting in the first few days ... I wanted to shout out to everyone on social media and brag about it ... cos I love helping. The concept here is so good, the execution needs a little work and the materials need a bit of updating.
Nonetheless, for the monies ... it is pretty reasonable for people starting out, and those with much time on their hands.
I will always be here for anyone who needs any Wordpress help, so just shout.

Hi Colette, I loved this post. You write quite eloquently..and with purpose...so very refreshing :) Sorry to hear you came across a bit of a twit..but just like in the real world...you can'y help but bump into one or two from time to time. I really hope you're not letting that get in the way of your own progress which may be present somewhere within your Premium membership offerings. I totally understand where you're coming from...but just a thought, if you're still going to promote WA..wouldn't it make sense to be present on the inside to support any prospects you direct here. Any how, I wish you the very best of success going forward...it sounds like you've got a lot of exciting stuff ahead of you.
Hi Anthony. Thanks for that. NOOOO, its not the twit lmao ... come across loads of them in my 48 year journey, but its a few things bugging me. But will see how it goes, not looking good as some of the teachings I disagree with what with total newbie's, especially on the wordpress side, but hey, I guess everyone has to learn the hard way, but why make it hard?
Wouldn't personally be my approach but not my site so I guess who cares. Overall still a good place mostly, and some great stuff to learn catering for everyone.
Will do my review of WA, try and get or help Kyle and Carson to update stuff and take it from there.
This place otherwise is UBER awesome. Like I said, idea is great, delivery and updates could do with some improvement. People are mostly AWESOME.
Anyway see what tomorrow brings.

Hi Collette, sorry to hear about your run in but do not let people like this put you off as it is only a minority of all the members here at Wealthy Affiliate. Most people here are willing to help so sorry to hear that you never really got the answers you required and that you were planning to leave. I hope you will continue on here and not let the negativity put you off or let the one who gave you a hard time feel that they have won because they were nasty. xxx
Thank you Cheryl. Very sweet. But to be honest, that was just that last straw in a long line of issues I couldn't get concrete answers too.
Probably didn't help that it was the weekend, but the only time I can really do things on this side of the business.
No that "it" won at all, but simply because i was already contemplating a few things, and well when one looks for a sign, something inevitably comes along ... which it did in that form.
will play it by ear. Don't really WANT to leave, but financially, is it really viable at the moment when most that is covered I already have experience with.
Will see how it goes.
