Comments and Feedback-second Opinion

I am always sympathetic when I see members barred from offering Comments and Feedback; I know we are not little children, but we are when we are just learning something for the first time.

The process takes both valuable time and sometimes money.

Should there be some form of qualification before you are allowed to offer comments or feedback; perhaps 3 or 4 approved samples before qualification, as part of the certification courses.

Should there be a second opinion before disapproving a comment or feedback; someone might not like the tie you are wearing or the comments made whether justified or not.

I am still waiting for a confirmation on whether you are refunded for a comment of feedback that was disapproved, especially if you have paid cash for the request.

Things move so fast at WA, i might have missed the answer.

Hi Courtney,

I've occasionally had the same problem when receiving comments or feedback here...either the person didn't understand exactly how to give quality feedback/comments, or the differences between the two.

Most of the time I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, especially if I see they're new here...I too, hate to disapprove a comment or feedback since I know they might get barred from the comment/feedback platforms. If it's just spelling and grammar errors, I'll edit those in the WordPress dashboard after approving it.

Anyways, I'll always reply to anyone that comments/gives feedback, sometimes quite lengthily, if there's enough to work off of, lol, and thank them. Sometimes I get an answer back, sometimes not.

If it's something that is way too short to give much to work off, I'll still reply with a "thanks for stopping by and commenting. Let me know if you have any questions about the post, I'll be happy to help..." or something along those lines.

In doing so, I'm hoping they'll get the idea of how it's supposed to be done...not just a "nice site" for feedback/comments. And, if they leave a sort of negative comment, or one that disagrees with my post, I'll still keep it for the most part.

I'll answer back politely and do what I can to turn it around in my favor. So far, I haven't experienced this yet using the platform here, but once in awhile I'll get one of these "difficult" comments from the outside, ...thankfully nothing too rude, just people with a different opinion than mine so far.

I really do like that idea you suggested, Courtney...maybe there should be sample comments/feedback tasks added to the certification courses to allow people to use the features here once they pass those. It'd be a great way for new members to get their feet wet and learn by doing!

Thanks for sharing your excellent ideas here, Courtney. This is definitely food for thought...

Best wishes :) ~Sherry

Hey Courtney, I never discard a comment. I do what Ken suggested, EDIT. Hope that helps.

Do you have access to an edit button for someone else's comments.?

I like your second opinion. Meaning, if we are given the second time by the owner of the site to reconstruct our comment before it is finally disapproved.

Do you mean reconstruct and resubmit; What happens if the person was ryde.

That may be the problem. But for me, I would give a second chance and the benefit goes to me.

Great question, Courtney. I know that opinions of others can't be controlled. I tend to manipulate their comments whether they are good, bad, vulgar, stupid, etc.
We all know the more comments on a website tends to gravitate people into more commenting. So I don't delete a comment whether I am offended or not. My opinion is irrelevant, just as the person that left a sleazy comment also irrelevant.
What I suggest is EDIT the comment to your liking, or at least remove what is irrelevant, possibly adding to the comment.
This helps in SEO of your website, as well as attracting more comments.

This is what I do. When I'm given lemons, I try to create lemonade.

I love the last line. Are you allowed to edit a person's comments?I was not aware of that. It's a delicate situation.Maybe a wider discussion could help.

Yes you can edit comments, date, all of it if you so desire. Just as freedomseekr said, I am always as polite as I can be with my replies. Sometimes a controversial comment gets more attention with other comments than just a thank you for your post type comment. Always be professional, it’s your website you are in control.

Hi Courtney!
This is a great question. At present, the door to commenting is wide open for all. I guess this is for several reasons.

1. Anyone can purchase credits (revenue for WA)
2. Everyone needs comments, so in order to qualify (give and/or get them), you buy or earn credits

Having said that, I can see the difficulty in monitoring that without "discrimination."

The easiest thing to do in my opinion;
1. is to let the decision to approve or reject the comment remain with the requestor but...
2. if a comment is rejected on good grounds, reinstate the credit

Hi David I agree with the refunding, the hurt from a disapproval is real; I experienced it in the early stages and the member was rude; of course i bookmarked the site, and for a while I was afraid to continue offering. I have also received that should have been disapproved, but I did not wish the member to feel what I felt; I am of the opinion that the training for that aspect should be noted in some form or the other. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Courtney, I've only done 3 or 4 comments and feedbacks, but I have no idea whether they were accepted or not. How do I know?

Normally the still pending remains until a response is made but you should receive notification if it was disapproved; so you must have been OK; Thanks for your contribution, but why so few?

Trying, trying TRYING to do all the correspondence that comes with a network, even a small one of around 160 or so folks...
Almost done for today, at which time I can get back to finishing Lesson 7 Course 2..
It WILL happen!

There is so much going on at WA, you have to prioritize, otherwise your website can suffer.

I wrote what I thought was a very nice comment on someone's site the other day. And yet still got denied. I guess he didn't like what I wrote. I don't know. I wanted to go back and read what I had wrote that got denied, but there is no where to see it.

How can we fix our mistakes if we do not know what mistakes we are making? If we use the comment section on site rubix, I think it should keep a record of the comment we wrote so that we can see it and try to determine why it got denied.

Are you sure about that, because the few times I was denied I did go back and look at the comments and I thought one of them was fair, so I thought my ranking compared to the member's prejudiced the disapproval .
