The Greatest Feeling in the World
THE GREATEST FEELING IN THE WORLD – Some, perhaps many, of you will know exactly what I’m talking about.
Ever achieved something truly great in your life? Maybe it was athletics? Maybe some of you have won a state championship? Or placed first in a music festival? Do you remember how you felt? Do you remember that feeling of utter exhilaration?
Getting to that point wasn’t easy though was it? Whatever your area of success, it took many years of hard work, concentration, dedication, confidence, pain, desire, faith, persistence and determination among other things.

Do you remember how incredibly hard it was getting there? Maybe it meant early morning practices before school. It meant hours and hours and hours of practice when your friends were doing other things and having a lot of fun. There may have been times when you felt like giving up. Somehow, though, you hung on and kept going.
You stuck to it through thick and thin. And then came the day when you reached your goal. Do you remember delivering that acceptance speech, holding that trophy, or having someone hang that medal around your neck? I’ll bet you can replay the video of that moment in your head right now, detail for detail. You can re-live that incomparable moment all over again. It’s something you never forget!
When I was a kid I really loved football. I loved playing it, watching it on TV, reading about it, collecting the sports cards…everything! I was lucky enough to learn something early in life. When I was 15 years old in 1967, the Green Bay Packers were the dominant team in the NFL. The Packers won the first ever Superbowl that year against the Kansas City Chiefs.
I remember reading an article about ‘the Pack’ in the newspaper. The article featured a quote from the late, great Vince Lombardi. I cut it out of the paper. Here it is.
'Winning is a Habit'

“It was part of Lombardi’s thinking that... ‘winning is a contest of wills. Winning is not a sometime thing it’s an all-the-time thing. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing... Any man’s finest hour is when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle, victorious’”
I still have that old, now yellow, piece of paper from the newspaper. I keep it in my jewelry box. Those words from coach Lombardi stayed with me all my life and inspired me to achieve some neat things. I know the feeling I speak of from personal experience.
Friends, would you too like to experience that feeling of victory again? That winning feeling is available to all of us. You decide every morning whether you are going to win or not. As Coach Lombardi suggested, winning depends on the strength of your will. Every single day take the decision to make winning a habit. Do that and I'll see you at the top!

Yep, I remember Coach Lombardi when he coached the Green Bay Packers. They won the first two super bowls. In fact I still believe being on the Lombardi time, Remember that? Get there at least 15 minutes early for every appointment. His team playing in below freezing temperatures on sheer will power and only wearing short sleeve jerseys. Wow, what a coach he was! Brings back a lot of memories. Thank you for sharing, Coach. Have a great Sunday afternoon.

I think he got that from the military...being a good soldier meant getting there early....yeah those were the days all right...thanks for commenting Larry and hope you're having an awesome day!

Great words indeed, Grant! In 1985, I played in a Texas state Championship football game! We ended up losing 48-37 in the end, but that was the greatest feeling ever!

We lost our high school city championship game 2 to 1 after two overtime periods. It was the longest game in city history at that time. It was disappointing at the time but I look back at it and yes...what a great feeling...
Great minds think alike, Grant!
Our game was billed as the running attack (us) versus the passing attack, them! We had been tied 18-18 at the half, and then injuries began taking their toll!
Still, I have very fond memories of it having been in it!

This is such a great reminder coachgrant. It can sometimes be a challenge when the victory is not in sight but with reminders like your post I remember that succeeding is based on the choices and decisions I make today. Thank you for sharing.
