Feed me, Seymour!

One of my favorite silly movies

is 'Little Shop of Horrors'. I don't really know why. It's not all that great, but it's kinda twisted, kinda funny, and the cast is fantastic.

The original came out in 1960 with Jack Nickleson. The remake came out in the 1986 featuring Steve Martin and Rick Morainis, and now they are looking to do a remake, yet again!

It's just a campy little musical that seems to have become a cult classic, showing up on Broadway, on screen, and probably as a production by your local high school theater department.

That Hollywood can't come up with an original idea to save itself is a conversation for a whole 'nother day with lots of time and adult beverages in hand!

But this wonderful, silly, stupid story, features a carnivorous plant, named Audrey who happens to have an insatiable appetite. Imagine a venus fly trap - on steroids! Unfortunately, our dear Audrey likes to eat - a lot.... a whole lot! And commands her owner, the hapless, Seymour to 'feed me!'. 'Feed me all night long.' Poor Seymour! What's a guy to do to feed 'his baby'?!

And then I went to write on my site

and I heard this voice in my head saying 'Feed me!' I sat there for a few minutes and started laughing. Oh how similar this wonderful world of WA and our sites are to being our own 'Audreys'.

I hear the voice throughout the day saying 'feed me'. Write another post. Do more.

I want more!

It really is quite insatiable!

This is not a one and done kind of thing!

In my past life as an acedemician, the phrase was

'publish or perish'. You had to write often, and well to be published.

You had to conduct research upon which to base your publications and you had to present at as many symposiums and conferences as possible.

If you could collaborate with others, it helped to boost your visibility and credibility.

And then you might, eventually, some day, get tenure - the faculty member's gold ring.

Even then, you were never done researching and writing.

Dejavu - all over again!

I've been kind of introspective today and, as I was pondering 'Little Shop of Horrors', my past life and today, and realized - son of a gun, if I'm not in the same place again!

I - we - have these beasts - babies - projects - pets that

demand to be fed - OFTEN!

We want our sites and posts to be indexed, ranked.

We want traffic, which in turn leads - hopefully - to sales -

OFTEN!

So we have to write ..... OFTEN!

Even in the Wonderful World of WA

If you don't post often and have members read your... whatever it is that you're sharing, or if you're not involved with the community but instead focus on your site(s), your ranking reflects it.

Now, we all know that WA rank doesn't feed our bank accounts, so we need to make sure we are keeping a balance, but it does feel good for our colleagues to acknowledge our efforts and contributions.

I'm not complaining! Really!

I just found the irony in the comparisons really funny. (yes, I know I'm easily entertained!)

But now, having fed this family, I'm off to my own kitchen to fix dinner for my other family!

Thanks for sharing a bit of your day with me!

It is very interesting why somethings stick with you. A nume of years back my family insisted that I watch this movie with them. the main thing I remember is this paperboy on a bicycle on ski's going down a slope chasing somebody screaming "I want my $2.00". Every once in a while it just pop's into my head. Great Post CMKetay.

Hi Christine

Great way of getting your point across

I have not seen the 1960 version of the movie will have to look it up

Yes it is true WA is a balancing act but I feel both worth doing, as I learn from blogs and questions asked as much as the training so a win win

Thank you so much for sharing this
