The wall and the air force base
About the wall and the base
Hi everybody I would just like to write about the wall in front of my house where every morning when I open my front door OR my curtains of my bedroom all see is the wall of the Ysterplaat Air Force Base which is pretty irratating plus the noise of the aeroplanes taking off and landing due to the president of South Africa , the mayor of Cape Town and other people in the goverment or other important people from other countries then after you'll most likely see an convoy of cars going in or out with massive amounts of protection .
When they still had the air spectacular weekend and I would watch the aerial moneuvers right from my roof one of the upsides of staying so close to the air force base the other added advantage of staying so close is that when they had this spectacular was been able to make use of the VIP enterance just few feet from my house and go in and out all weekend along when I was younger but now days they have the said air show somewhere else due to all the windows that used to break form the aeroplanes that flew extremely low for all the crowds that visited on these 3 days which usually started on a Friday . Where if you attended this function you would be able to go into the aeroplane hangers and check out all of the classic planes , clothing and equipment and just make a day of it for whole day an outing for the family a really and truly experience that will never be forgotten.
below is a pic that I took of the wall in front of my house.
This pic above is the VIP entrance just few feet from my house.
now little bit on the historyAFB Ysterplaat the site was used as a civilian airfield back then know as the Maitland Aerodrome in 1929 which became AFRICAN AIR TRANSPORT in 1938 and also got involved in the training of pilots for the Uion Air Training Group's a pupil pilot training scheme and then in 1949 on the 1st of April the name was change from the Brooklyn Air Force Base to YSTERPLAAT AIR FORCE BASE and is still that name to this day and then on the 7th of April ,1952 Jan van Riebeeck landed on the sores of our sea here at Ysterplaat and was intruduced to the well know Ysterplaat Air Force Base .
27 Squadron SAAFBefore the Piaggio Albatross aircraft were de-commissioned in 1990 the 27 squadron was established for the world war 2 maritime patrol squadron of the South African Air Force and disbanded after the war but was resurrected once again in 1951 to 1958 under the same role and it's final period of service was from 1962 to 1990.
