Just wanted to run my niche ideas by you. 'Mountaineering' and 'Staying Healthy' are two topics I often like to talk about and wondered if these would serve as
Hey CJ, I'd say health or "staying healthy" is way too broad... there are probably 1000s of niches within that but you'd need to narrow it down a fair bit.
I like the mountaineering idea though, especially if you're really into it.
I don't know much about it but it would seem there are lots of equipment/clothing/membership sites/resources you could very naturally promote and it's a great niche visually with photos and videos.
So who would be your target audience? Is it people organising their own mountaineering/hiking trips? Would it be in a certain geographical location?

You're right. I'd narrow down the health bit to "Stronger Immunity". Target audience - people who easily get sick, can't recover from sickness quickly and looking to manage health better.
My target audience for Mountaineering is hiking, trekking, rock-climbing, ice-climbing and scrambling enthusiasts as well as seasoned athletes alike, since all these skills come together to carve out a mountaineering skill. Since I've trained in the Canadian Rockies, that's what I intend to use as an example and I guess it will naturally attract people from the surrounding regions.
What do you think?
I would absolutely go with mountaineering. Just the way you're talking about it makes me think this is your niche!
What I would say is mountaineering is your overall niche (like people who love the outdoors) so have your website name/domain reflect this and then the hiking, rock climbing, ice climbing and scrambling would be your website sub-categories. Maybe start writing about 1 category and build out to the others later. Up to you though :)
If it was me starting this site I would spend some time looking at the competition: search for related topics and see what websites come up, look at what topics they're creating content around, see what affiliate programs they're promoting.

Don't know how far you're into the training yet, but search keyword ideas on Jaaxy to get a sense of the number of monthly Google searches, what types of things people are searching for and how many other sites are competing for the top spot.

... note that pretty much any niche can be a successful niche, it truly depends upon you of how you treat the topic and the quality of engagement with your interested audience .....
for both of the ones you've mentioned, it's best to select the one that you know best and have extensive experience in to write on or blog about in-depth, deeply, over a length of time to establish your authority on line and then to scale your biz to fruition ...
Suggest you focus on one and as this amazing platform was built on a helping others principle, here's a phrase that once you complete may help guide you to determine better the first niche that you would like to work with ....
