Who Is An Expert?

I remember when I first got started.

Learning new things and trying to make money online. One of my worst fears was "who would listen to me?"

I am not an EXPERT at anything yet.

Every other person I saw was making a killing online and sounded "super" convinced. Like they knew it all.

so I figured the only way to get that good was "to know it all" before I tried to talk to anyone

I've had close friends I tried to explain this "new opportunity" to.

I talked with passion but it led nowhere (I couldn't get them to sign up). This hugely affected my confidence and for a while, I almost quit.

I could not wait(or tell how long it would take for me to become an expert)... Maybe when I finish the whole "Bootcamp", I'd know it all i said to myself

Boy was I wrong

Because in this business(or anyone), there is no knowing it all. Everyday, new ideas and strategies are going to keep coming and you have something new to learn.

WHO IS AN EXPERT

I figured an expert was someone who knows it all and this definition can be limiting if you think like I did.

An expert is someone who knows something you don't.

Not a guru or a know it all. - Heck. Nobody knows it all.

We are all learning, some have just learned more and read more than you - those you see as experts

and you know a lot more than other people who consider you expert(but you don't know it yet because you are still doubting how much you know)

How to Show you are an expert.

"Share what you've learned and do what you preach"

I know imposter syndrome. It has been the second battle I have fought and one thing it has in common with being seen as an expert is this fear of being asked a question in your field or niche and not knowing the correct answer or saying the wrong answer.

One way I have found to deal with this, now that I know no one knows it all is to tell the person

"I don't know right now, but I'd do a little research, and get back to you"

and boy, I have learned so many new things just saying this even to questions i am hearing for the first time.

I do a little research, have an answer, and learn something new. A win-win

But people would not come asking you questions if they don't know you are doing something so

"Share your work" - teach what you've learned. new connections you've made. Don't be afraid to be wrong.

Expect people to criticize and sometimes laugh at what you've said. but why should that affect you? You're growing and trying new things. You're learning. Embrace it.

I watched a Youtube video the other day that showed you could teach anything you've learnt because

there is always someone to teach

Just how you have people in front of you to learn from because they know something you don't(experts)

There are people coming behind you you can also teach because they would love to know what you do(You are an expert)

Being an expert is knowing what someone else does not know.

There is always someone new to your field

every day people are

- Changing carriers

- Being born

- Looking for new opportunities

- Asking questions you just discovered answers to

and if you don't show these people how good you are now, you won't have the confidence to build on your expertness(I made this up) if you keep waiting till you know it all.

Remember - NO ONE(gooroos included) knows it all.

What do you think? DO you think not being an "expert" has held you back? especially when it comes to promoting offers? let me know in the comment section

You're right! There really isn't such a thing as an 'expert'. I was told growing up that "an 'ex' is a has-been and a 'spurt' is a drip under pressure so that's something you should never even try to attain. Just be the best you can at everything you do."

Hi Steve
Nice words of wisdom. I like it.
Thank you
:-)

As you said, Jude--Nobody knows it all, but then again, Nobody is perfect!😎

Fortunately, for all of us, we all some some things, and others know some things that we do not, and when we put all that together, we can be a very effective team in helping each other out!

I do consider myself as an expert in my job but that's because I'm always giving advice to patients every day regarding minor illnesses and injuries
You can be also call yourself an expert if you're saying repetitive facts that most don't know

Some things that I've read for the first time. I do my research to make myself an expert, should I encounter any questions thereafter again

That's exactly what it takes.

An expert is just a "definition".

Doesn't mean you have to know it all.

Thanks Simone

You're welcome Jude

Thanks for sharing. I'm certainly no expert.

You are!

Everyone is an "expert" at something
